Altitude Setting
I have the Respronics System one Plus. I have been traveling and am now at a higher altitude than when I first got this CPAP machine. My altitude setting is on 1. This machine does not have an auto altitude setting feature . How do I know what altitude range each of the number settings are?
Also, how will changing the altitude setting effect me?
Thanks,
Linda

Re: Altitude Setting
The settings and the altitude listings SHOULD be in the user manual.
These are from the M Series Plus instructions.
Altitude settings:
I = less than 2500 ft.
2 = 2500 to 5000 ft.
3 = 5000 to 7500 ft.

Re: Altitude Setting
I thought most machines made today auto adjusted for the altitude? Esp. the PRS1

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: Altitude Setting
From what I've seen, only the "data-capable" machines have auto-altitude adjustments......and the Plus is not one of those, even though it's from the latest generation from PR.GumbyCT wrote:I thought most machines made today auto adjusted for the altitude? Esp. the PRS1

Re: Altitude Setting
I found the settings for altitude and changed it to 2. Last night I was aware of greater pressure; also the pillows did not slip as they had in the previous nights. Am I correct then in assuming that the change in altitude setting changed the pressure?
I am concerned that the machine I have is not an auto altitude device. Since I travel so much, I think I really need one that will make the adjustment automatically. I did not realize there was a difference when I first started this a month ago. I guess I have to figure out who I call to get the auto CPAP.......my doctor or the DME company? If my doctor writes a new prescription for the auto machine, then does the DME person just trade them out?
Thanks for any advice as to how to handle this,
Linda

YES, that is the way it should work. However comma in the sleep business so much depends on your insurance, your DME, and your doc and how they are financially connected.linda12345 wrote: I guess I have to figure out who I call to get the auto CPAP.......my doctor or the DME company? Many discussions have taken place on the interconnections. Try searching for your particulars - I like to use "Advanced Search" so you can search within those findings again and again.

Re: Altitude Setting
I am now in the process of talking to my doc and with the DME company to see what is involved to change to the Respronics System One Auto so that I will have the correct altitude settings no matter where I am.
The answer I get from the DMe person is that it will depend on whether the doc will write the prescription and then whether Medicare will cover this machine.
Is there anyone using the System One Auto that is covered by Medicare?

Re: Altitude Setting
I have spoken to my doctor and he is prescribing the System one Pro. That one also does an auto adjustment for altitude. According to my doctor, I do not need an a CPAP machine that does auto titration since mine is static. What do you all know about the System One Pro?

Re: Altitude Setting
Glad to hear you're getting one.
The System Ones and the S9s are really new, so we don't really know about their durability, but if the PR1 Pro is as good as the REMstar Pro 2 that I started out with in 2005, it should be a good one.
I really can't say that I've read many (if any) negative comments about them.
It will have a two-year warranty, so if anything happens the factory will take care of it. As with anything, it can be "the luck of the draw". With my first machine, after about a year's worth of use, it started developing a little "wheeze" in the C-Flex mechanism, so I had it sent in to the factory to be gone through (before the warranty expired) and it's been super quiet ever since. I have since purchased several more machines from that "generation" (Legacy models) and they've all been great, too.

Re: Altitude Setting
Good news. I heard from the DME and they are sending me the System One Auto and will set the pressure at my fixed rate of 8. It is supposed to arrive by Monday. I am sure I will have many more questions once I receive it.
Thanks to everyone for helping me get the CPAP machine I need. Not worrying about altitude settings is a great relief.
