Humidifier on a PR System One REMstar auto
Humidifier on a PR System One REMstar auto
I started using a cpap last tuesday night. The PR One is a loaner until my unit arrives. My DME set the humidifier on 2. I used it two nights on 2. On the third night I use it on the 1 setting and I liked that setting better. On the fourth night I turned it to the 0 setting and it seems to be the perfect setting for me.
I know the heat increases and decreases according to the number settings but does the amount of moisture increase and decrease with the number settings?

The PR S1 really does not heat the water much if at all. I've slept through some relatively cold nights and the warming plate on the humidifier was cold to the touch.
Somehow, the machine calculates the relative humidity and creates more or less humidity in the tube according to the setting you choose, but I'm really not sure how, since it doesn't seem to heat the water to do it. My machine uses very little water. I keep my setting low at 2. Any higher and I get nasal congestion and headaches, any lower and I get dried out. So it's obviously working, I'm just not sure how.

Well, at setting 2 the air seems too warm for me but I can not tell any difference in the humidity from settings 2 and 0. The 0 setting felt good to me and it didn't dry me out either. So I'll just keep it at 0 until my unit arrives.

buy a cheap humidity meter for your bedroom. If the room humidity is more than 40% (correct me pls if I am wrong), you do not need the help of the humidifier. Too much humidity is also not good clogging yr nose etc)....
I set my humidifier to 0 last May. A few days ago I even uninstall this out of the CPAP. Clean the humidifier cmpletely, disassembble it, dry it and now it is just resting for the rest of the summer

I have an s9 on order along with the H5i humidifier and now I'm wondering if I even needed the humidifier. I live in a very humid part of the country. My insurance paid 90% of the cost for the cpap but only 50% of the cost for the humidifier. Oh well.
Re: Humidifier on a PR System One REMstar auto
I don't know about not needing a humidifier when the relative humidity is above a certain point.
When I started on CPAP it was February and here in Northern California that means rainy and cold (relatively) weather. We do run our central heat for short periods during the day which tends to dry out the house a bit, but not at night when we sleep. I never check our relative humidity, so I have no idea what it was during the winter, but I think it was fairly high given the rainy weather. I certainly DID need the humidifier--I had to go 45 days without one during the longest home titration in history (long story) and I was miserable. Finally getting the humidifier was a great relief.
We don't have exceptionally humid summers and we have no AC, so we sleep with the windows open. Sometimes the air is dry and sometimes humid from the coastal fog (or, as I call it, "Natural Air Conditioning"). If I leave my setting on 2, my sinuses don't seem to react too much from fluctuations in the relative humidity (I will admit that after some warm nights with the windows open I do find myself more congested in the morning).
As for the air on setting 2 being warm, I WISH it were so on my PR S1. Even on hot summer evenings I'm finding the frigid vented air from my mask too cold to tolerate blasting on my arm all night. Perhaps your loaner PR is set to "classic" humidifier settings???

Re: Humidifier on a PR System One REMstar auto
Just find the one that makes you happy, for me it was a 3 to keep my sinuses from hurting that was 7 mos ago and still have it at 3.
