First 30 days

Post by Rick B » Fri Jun 25, 2010 3:49 pm

Whew, been at this for a month now and here's the info. I know some of you can remember when I was tearing the mask off in the middle of the night while sleeping. Well, I was determined to make this work if I had to keep it on with 10 feet of duct tape! Fortunately it didn't come to that. I was lucky enough to get two masks. One nasal pillow Swift LT from the DME and another full face "full life" mask from the sleep tech for free to try out since I was claustrophobic.

Well, the nasal pillows kept making my nose sore every couple days. That was a booger of a problem. So I tried getting used to the full face mask a little at a time. That helped the nights I was congested, but I never could get much sleep with the full face mask. After 30 days I'm still not completely used to this thing, but it is getting better. Thanks to all of you for your support.

The doctor said my AHI was 61 per hour at my sleep study. My unit only shows 7 day and 30 day averages, but this morning it said 7 day average AHI 6.8 and Sleep therapy hours around 5.0. 30 days ago i couldn't get more than a couple hours sleep at a time at best. I can't wait for a full nights sleep (7-8 hours). Hoping the AHi will get better and the sleep therapy longer!

For the person who says they hide their machine from their friends when they come over: I tell my friends it's my connection to my home planet and I need it to survive on this earth. Sheesh, I'm surprised how many of my friends are on this and I never even knew it.

Home planet! Good one!

Regarding surprise at how many friends use one, you will be shocked if you ever find out how many friends don't use CPAP but are in desperate need of one.
