OOOk.... just changed from my REMStar Auto I was using before to a S8 Auto Elite.....
according to my testing period, the REMStar recorded an AHI of 1.8 having my pressure set between 6-16 at 95% around 9.8cm.
However, when I changed over to the S8, after the first night it had an AHI of 4.3 and my 90% is at 11.6cm? which I have to admid I feel like pretty tired yesterday and today...
I have the settings at 6-16 range same as the REMStar I was using before.
is this because my body is changing over to the new machine and not yet used to it?
BTW, I love the instant report I can get with my machine next to my bed and have my lap top connected straight away
Change in results using different machine
Re: Change in results using different machine
Your message states that you have an S8 Auto Elite, which, to my knowledge, does not exist. Your profile shows the S8 Vantage, which is a (non-US) APAP.
ResMed xPAPs have been noted to score more hypopneas than some of the other brands of machines. This is because each company uses different algorithms to decide what qualifies as an apnea or hypopnea. Without full PSG (sleep lab) equipment, all of the machines have to "guess" a bit as to what is what. So that may explain the higher AHI. And since the Vantage responds to hypopneas with pressure increases, that may also explain the higher pressures with the new machine.
But you feel more tired, and that is a real concern. I'd give the new machine a few more days and then give my sleep doc a call.

Okitok,
Do you best to go by how you feel, and not by the numbers.
The ResMed algorithm does tend to go to higher pressure than the Respironics, and handles breathing interruptions differently. So the critical gauge is how you feel. The Resmed S8 auto created more dramatic pressure changes, and may therefore disrupt your sleep more than the Respiorincs.

RR=Respironic Remstar
RS=Resmed Spirit -- that's the Resmed Autoset's name in Europe.

[quoter]Conclusion: While the RR provided a lower AHI than the RS at lower pressure levels, it could not be assessed whether this difference was relevant for clinical outcomes. However, this face-to-face comparison of Auto-adjustable continuous positive airway pressure devices seems useful for the assessment of titration efficacy.[/quote]
Method:The A-CPAP trial was carried out overnight in the laboratory. The RR (Murrysville, Pa., USA) and the RS (Sydney, Australia) were used in a randomized order. The devices were covered in identical boxes for blinding purposes. Four hours after the start of the polysomnography, the tubing was disconnected from the first device and attached to the next, which was then used for another 4 h. The pressure was programmed to a range between 4 and 14 cm H2O. The A-CPAP devices were compared regarding their effect on relevant sleep and respiratory variables. The median (P50), maximum (Pmax) and 95th percentile (P95) of the positive airway pressure values were computed differentially for the states of sleep and wakefulness. Finally, the P95/P50 ratio was calculated. A higher index reflects a greater difference between P50 and P95, which is indicative of increased pressure variability [3, 13]. Scoring was done by one skilled technician and reviewed by K.B.H. Both were blinded to the treatment conditions.

Re: Change in results using different machine
opps... must have got the name wrong... all I know is that its the older S8 Auto
I do feel abit tired for the past week actually (with the new machine and old machine)
as I have been having only 6 hours sleep... so I guess I still feel tired... but it is bad... as its 2:30pm, and I am really sleepy now
I dont remember waking up, but my GF did say the machine was very loud and this morning I woke up with strong air blowing at me... but not leaking... I did have dry throght ... but I might have had the humidifier too low...
