ResScan Software 3.10 Patients Need Not Apply
ResScan Software 3.10 Patients Need Not Apply
ResMed Corporate will sell ResScan 3.10 software to Doctors and clinicians only. PATIENTS NEED NOT APPLY. Why? ResMed Corporate doesn't want to be sued, should the apnea patient do something stupid and dies. For example,ResScan 3.7 software allowed apnea patients to independently change their CPAP/APAP settings. Should the apnea patient do something stupid while changing the settings, and dies, ResMed Corporate doesn't want to be sued. Neither do the DME (Durable Medical Equipment) suppliers.
ResMed's ResScan 3.7 allowed apnea patients access to change their settings. Supposedly, ResMed's ResScan 3.10 addressed the settings problem. With the up-graded 3.10 software, apnea patients could access and download their information ONLY. They would not be able to change their machine settings. Everybody wins. We get the information, ResMed Corporate doesn't get sued.
Now, for the sake of transparency, who am I? I officially joined the Apnea Club, February 17, 2010. I have a mild to moderate apnea sleep disorder. My CPAP Pressure is 12cm. Through my insurance, I bought the ResMed S8 AutoSet II. The machine is compatible with ResScan 3.7 and ResScan 3.10 Unfortunately, it is not Mac compatible.
The quest begins. What do I want? Simple. I want to collect and download my apnea information from my computer and print it out. The ResMed S8 Auto Set II allowed me to do that. Of course, I had to pay extra for the feature. In the apnea game, nothing is included, everything is a separate charge, nothing is cheap.
My first DME Supplier, Personal Support, would or could not sell me ResScan 3.7 software. A personal call from my pulmonologist and his prescription proved fruitless. My insurance did not cover this expense. I didn't care. I'll pay cash. No Sale. No ResScan 3.7 I have now re-named my former DME Supplier to IMPERSONAL NON-SUPPORT Supplier.
After weeks of being jerked around by my no-can-sell IMPERSONAL NON-SUPPORT Supplier, I needed some additional hardware. I went to another DME Supplier. Within 5 business days, I bought and received the ResMed Card Reader ACR38 and the ResScan 3.10 software CD. Go figure? I asked no questions and wrote the check. Now I'm home free. Right? Wrong?
Installing the software was a breeze. No big deal. If I didn't understand a sentence, I read it over again. Worst case scenario, I screw up and start over. The ResMed Data Card is not rocket science. I inserted the data card in the back of my ResMed AutoSet II and successfully retrieved the information. The ResMed Card Reader ACR38 is almost dummy-proof. You have a USB 2.0 connector that plugs into your computer's USB port. Insert the ResMed Data Card into the ResMed Card Reader and that's it. Life is good. Not quite!!!
My apnea information was not downloaded. It should have worked. I had all the right stuff: a ResMed Data Card, a ResMed Data Card Reader ACR38 and the ResMed ResScan 3.10 software CD. The following message appeared, larger than life: THERE ARE NO DEVICES AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOADING DATA. CONNECT A FLOW GENERATOR OR DATA CARD AND TRY AGAIN.
What devices do I still need? Supposedly, the ResScan 3.10 software included all the necessary drivers, etc. My ResScan icon is on my desk top, ready to go. Is my Data Card the problem? Perhaps my Card Reader is defective? Is the message suggesting I purchase an S8Reslink to be attached to my ResMed AutoSet II machine? Who knows? For the moment I am definitely stuck.
I do know one thing. ResMed Corporate will not be very helpful. Why? ResMed Corporate does not want their apnea patients owning ResScan 3.10 software CDs. However, ResMed Corporate will be happy to sell you everything else!

Did you install the drivers? Open ResScan 1st, before plugging in the Card Reader. It should then find it. Did you create your patient file? Open it, and then click on download. Select download all available data, and save this setting.

Does this mean that someone using VPAP Auto 25, for example, should go with ResScan 3.7 if he can get a license and has a choice between that and 3.10? (I don't plan on going to S9 anytime soon...so it sounds like 3.10 is worse for me than 3.7, right?)
Re: ResScan Software 3.10 Patients Need Not Apply
Nah. Even "I" can use 3.10 when upgraded from 3.7. We had no problem installing any of the ResScans but let me tell you installing Respironics' EncorePro was a bear!!! Every version of it! Sometimes w/3.10 its simply a matter of your not waiting long enough. It can be slow during some activities. Tho no where near so S-L-O-W as EncorePro 2.2

Re: ResScan Software 3.10 Patients Need Not Apply
This is probably a stupid question, but which version is newer, 3.10 or 3.7? I'd been reading 3.10 as "three point one zero" (a more precise way of saying "three point one"), so I'd thought 3.7 was a much newer version. But now it's starting to sound like 3.10 is "three point ten" which is newer than 3.7.
I've seen various posts/items mentioning one or the other of these two versions. If there's an item or thread here that contrasts these two versions, I'd be grateful for a pointer.

Re: ResScan Software 3.10 Patients Need Not Apply
3.10 is the newer version and is needed for the S9 PAPs. 3.7 is the older version and is backward compatible thru the S8s and S8 IIs just as 3.10 is backward compatible for the S8s and S8 IIs. 3.7 is NOT compatible w/the S9s.
Its NOT a stupid question and only Resmed knows why they elected to adopt 3.10 AFTER 3.7.

At some point, I started putting a "0" in front of the "7" in my head, making them 3.07 and 3.10. That way, I could sequence them properly.roncron wrote:This is probably a stupid question, but which version is newer, 3.10 or 3.7? Thanks, Slinky & Howkim. Yes, 3.07 would make more sense.

Did you know that when you insert the card into the card reader you have to flip it upside down first?

Yeah, I forgot about that I used the S8 ResLink for so long!!! Gold spot goes down in the PAP, up in the card reader.
