BiPAP ASV & BiPAP S/T

Post by akcpapguy » Fri May 28, 2010 3:51 pm

Respironics has integrated the ability to upgrade the firmware on these devices through the SD card now. I am uncertain if you will be able to upgrade the other C-series (System One) devices this way in the future or not since there has been no firmware upgrade released for them yet. But this is a huge step forward.

Yeah! Good news. I'm sure maybe 1 out of a million machines ever got a firmware upgrade in the past, even when needed.

Could you clarify though - AFAIK, the still current versions of the ASV and S/T are the ones that use the Smart Cards? Are there newer versions out based on the SD card, is this via a specialized tool (I remember the service tool to set time, etc.), or did you mean the SmartCard?

Do they have to have a certan level of software already installed to do the upgrade?

Thx!
Michael

Yes the C-series (System One) BiPAP ASV & BiPAP S/T take the SD card, and the firmware is upgradable through the SD card.

Thanks for the update on this. It's good to see that the industry is progressing toward upgradeable, rather than disposable products.

Of course, this is the rather similar to my LCD TV. While I can upgrade the firmware, there has to be a SERIOUS issue with it before I would want to upgrade it. Why? If it's working without problem, I don't want to introduce a new problem. If I feel that way about an LCD TV, I feel even more that way toward my xPAP unit! I can live without the LCD TV if something goes wrong. But my ASV unit? I don't think so...

BUT, there are times this will be a GREAT feature in the future. So, overall, I am glad to see this as a feature that the industry is embracing.

In reality, the firmware for Respironics machines has previously been upgradeable (on machines with smart cards), but with a little more complicated procedure (special cable and software) through a computer connection.
