Nose Sores

Post by marco » Wed May 12, 2010 12:47 pm

I found a product at a dental office which solves the nasal mask nose mark problem.
I have been using a Resprionics Easy Life Nasal Mask which occasionally causes an irritation sore on the bridge of my nose. Yes, I keep the mask straps loose. But when changing sleeping positions, the hard plastic nose bridge has actually created a cut on my nose.
I found nose sores to be a common complaint on CPAPtalk regardless of mask manufacturer. I e-mailed Resprionics for a suggestion. They basically ducked the mask design issue by referring me to my DME. The DME suggested a CPAP Sleeping Pillow, which helps some, but does not have adequate space to accommodate the Easy Life forehead support bar.
Looking through Cpaptalk I found several plugs for PadACheek (I think your blog is their marketing plan) which is a $14 piece of cloth which is not the panacea they claim it to be.
My discovery was a soft disposable, adhesive-backed, foam pad designed for use with digital xray sensors. They smooth out sharp edges that irritate soft tissues. They are non-latex, and stick easily to all types of materials. They provide excellent cushioning, and have eliminated my nose sores. The are sold under the the names Edge-Ease by Crosstex ($45.99 for 300) and Smoothies by Steri-Shield ($39.99 for 300.) The small size pads can be cut into smaller sections, last for at least a week, and solve the problem.
