Masks: Prescription required?

Post by mrstevegross » Tue May 04, 2010 11:19 am

Have I understood correctly that you need a prescription to buy a CPAP mask? If so, does anyone know why? I mean, the CPAP itself is a prescription device, but accessories seem a lot less risky to sell OTC. It would be great if I could just go to target and try on a bunch of masks, rather than have to make an appointment with a DME that has a more limited supply than a retailer would. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Interesting. So the accessory is considered part of the Class II device then, eh? Too bad: it doesn't strike me as warranting a scrip. I wonder if we could lobby Congress / FDA to alter that aspect of the regulation?
