Waiting

Post by kg2v » Mon Oct 17, 2005 1:25 pm

Well, I've talked to my MD - the prescription has been issued for a pressure of 10 - that is about all I know except that now I'm waiting on Gentiva (sp?) and Cigna. Anyone know what happens now? Do they ask me about masks? (No one has contacted me)

What happens now is that they are faxed your information and drop ship you the cheapest mask and machine they can find.

My advice would be #1. Obtain your Rx from them ASAP. #2. Tell them not to ship you anything #3 Take your Rx to cpap.com and get good equipment.

From my call with them, BillMyInsurance.com takes some Cigna/Gentiva plans but not others. You may call them and see what they cover before buying cash.

Limpy's advice is great. Find your machine of choice, fax in your prescription and you'll have your machine in a day or so.

If I were to buy a machine through the traditional DME/Insurance route, I'd be paying more just with my deductable than a machine would cost online.

There are several reputable online companies. I bounce back and forth between cpapman.com and cpap.com, and my decision is driven exclusively by price. Both offer excellent service--much better than a local DME.

Seems they have already shipped the machine - but are letting me change my mask (which will be 1-2 days later) Don't know which machine, but I asked for, and got an Activa mask, and it's coming with a Heated Humidifier without me asking!

That is *very* good to hear. The Activa is the mask you want to start with. A heated humidifier too?!?! Wow, you must be a bigshot.

When it comes in, let us all know what you have and we can start helping you tweak the beast of a rig into a working sleep machine.

Well, there was a BIG box delivered today

A Remstar Plus, with heated humidifier, and activa mask, video and some CD - OK - what software do I want?

You may not want software for a Remstar Plus. It may only give you the compliance data, which you don't really need to spend $99 for software to already know. That's up to you.

Good luck with your therapy.
