How long til one feels rested?
After years of sleep apnea and feeling lethargic all the time, I recently received my first machine. Now I am wondering how long on average might it take for my body to feel rested?
It is the beginning....I continue until I find the right combination of machine and mask!

Well, unfortunately, the answer is 'don't know'! It is highly individual. Some people report feeling better within a couple of days....for others, it takes longer. Other factors affect feeling better as well.....such as age, other health conditions, how much stress you have in your life, etc.
Just plug along...knowing that eventually you will feel better.

is it typical that after a few days on the machine that one feels more tired than before the machine?

I definitely did that. But then again i have been sleeping a lot longer most of the time. So i think you are going through your period of high sleep debt payment. I am into this for a couple of months and am having some issues but feel better than before most of the time. I think that for the normal recovery period the improvement will be gradual. Time will tell if i am right on that. I still need to get my pressures right and i am not sure if my mask is cutting it for me. In another week and a half i go back for a review so will be going over my concerns then. I hope to get back on track.sleepyhollow wrote:is it typical that after a few days on the machine that one feels more tired than before the machine?
I would expect some bumps in the road. Stay with it and ask a lot of questions. You will get to where you need to be. I am now pretty used to sleeping with the gear. I dont feel as exhausted as i did in the beginning. I feel better thna when i started. I hope you do too.

Has anyone reached the utopia of rest? How about stage 4 sleep?

Re: How long til one feels rested?
I started therapy late last December and until I started getting 6-7 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night I couldn't really tell any difference. How long it takes for each individual to get to that amount of 'good' (low AI's and AHI's) sleep is different for everyone. It was a gradual transition for me as it probably is for most, I doubt that many folks immediately strap the mask on and feel instant good results. In fact some may even feel like they are getting less sleep in the beginning. It took me about two months before I could really tell a difference. When I noticed the biggest improvements was when I joined a gym and started loosing some weight, my pressure requirements are slowly going down as well as my apnea's. It sure feels good to no longer wake up with a splitting headache and a dried out mouth.sleepyhollow wrote:After years of sleep apnea and feeling lethargic all the time, I recently received my first machine.
