Thought I had had a good experience with my machine -- VPAP S, with humidifier and additional O2 -- but after reading some other posts I'm not so sure. I'm into my 3rd week with this bi-level machine, which is intended to relieve my chest muscles of the work load so that open chest surgery can heal. I probably have sleep apnea too, but have not been tested.
What happened is that I woke up a couple hours before normal rising time and wasn't sure if I had my mask on or not. Felt my face and sure enough it was there. No discomfort or anything. So, I thought, hey I'm adjusting to this thing pretty well. Meantime, others were writing here of apneas in those in-between sleep and wake minutes or hours. So, maybe I was just in that "in between" time.
Does anyone else experience this? Or was I more likely in some state of dreaming and semi-wakefulness?
Bet this doesn't make any sense. Sorry.

until something comes up in your experience that indicates differently.
In the meantime, why not register with your details, so when you next post that information will be available.
And good luck with your therapy.
cheers

Re: Good or Bad?
Mars - Thought your suggestion made sense, so I registered today. Have not found a place yet to put in details such as machine type etc. Sure it's here somewhere as I see it on most posts. Actually, had planned to wait to register until I do a sleep test. Assume it will show sleep apnea, and I will be a long time equip. user and member. But that may take a while -- still need to wait for chest muscles and sternum to heal.
Anyone is welcome to show this dummy where to enter details. Thanks.
Ed

Hi Ed! Welcome to the Forum! No shame in registering before you even have equipment, I joined fully two weeks before I had my sleep study to find the right pressure with the equipment (the so-called "titration" study)! By the time I went in for the titration, I already had my equipment picked out and a million questions to ask the sleep doc and the techs! Not that they answered any of them but I was prepared! So GOOD FOR YOU!
To enter info with respect to equipment, or to add a signature or change other personal info:
Go to "User control panel" after you've logged in, it's located at the top left of your screen, under the search toolbar.
Then once that loads, go to the tab called "Profile", then "Edit equipment" or "Edit signature" or whatever else you'd like to add/change.
Good luck with the healing, I can imagine it's a difficult process. Luckily you can do lots of reading here in the meantime
You can always start with the "CPAP Wiki" under the Yellow light bulb at the top of the page.
It's not uncommon that people with cardiovascular problems also end up having sleep apnea, so glad you found your way here.
p.s. watch out for some posts, wouldn't want you to laugh your stitches right out

Hi Ed, welcome to the forum, do register I think you'll find it very useful here.Learnin as I Go wrote:What happened is that I woke up a couple hours before normal rising time and wasn't sure if I had my mask on or not. It's quite normal to wake up in the night, so don't read anything by that. Many of us suffering from Sleep Apnea whether it's Obstructive, Central or mixed do wake up in the night. Depending on how your adjusting to the machine, if you are adjusting well then there may be nights where you don't think the machine is on, or your brain conditions itself to get you to check just in case. I started having this after switching to a new machine, the pressure although the same seemed a lot lighter and for several weeks I would wake up and the first thing I would do was check the mask vents to make sure air was coming out or gently lift the mask off my face to hear the rush of air to be 100% sure.
Try not to read too much into it. It sounds like you're adjusting to the machine very well.
Thanks
Dave
