First off, exactly which brand and model PAP do you have? Some can be set up to turn on automatically when the mask is applied and you take a breath or that automatic start can be turned off and one would have to push the start button for therapy to begin.
Do you have a lung problem? It may be that your inhalation is not strong enough to use the automatic start feature.
I've been thru a good dozen masks to find two that I like and are comfortable for me w/a minimum amount of leak.
I was started on a straight CPAP and that was much better than sleeping w/no PAP. I have COPD and while CPAP was better than no PAP it still wasn't good enough and I was switched to a bi-level PAP and am doing much better on the bi-level PAP.
