New User Needs ResScan software Advice

Post by danielinsd » Fri Apr 09, 2010 3:10 am

Thank you very much for this forum. I am a new member to cpaptalk.com and this is my first posting.
I was diagnosed 2 years ago and given a CPAP machine. However, I was only able to keep my mask on for 2 or 3 hours a night. Now that I have been reading this website for a couple of months, I have learned how to keep my mask on most of the night with an AHI around 4.

I would like to obtain the ResScan 3.7 software. I have read the postings on this website saying that ResMed doesn't allow patients to purchase the software. My Sleep Apnea Doctor is also my DME, so there wasn't any prescription. (She provided my CPAP machine.) She says she can't sell me the ResScan software, but I can get it online. I know there are places where you can download illegal versions of the software, but I don't choose to use software that I don't pay for. I tried to purchase ResScan from an American company and finally gave up. I tried to purchase a card reader and a ResScan 3.7 CD from an Australian company. However, they no longer sell 3.7. They only sell a link to 3.10 now. I may be mistaken, but I thought that it was better for me as a "non-doctor" to use 3.7 rather than 3.10. Is this true?

I would appreciate it, if someone could send me a PM on where to purchase ResScan 3.7, or let me know if it I can use 3.10 without having to lie about being a Doctor.

FYI. I have learned some amazing stuff from this website. I have learned to take Claritin, use a Swift FX mask, and use a memory foam pillow so I can sleep on my side. I learned that I needed to change the mask setting on my S8 Autoset Vantage from Mirage to Swift, wear a bite guard, etc. I learned how to put my CPAP machine in Clinical mode and how to read the Efficacy and Usage results off of the display. i have learned how to interpret the graphs that my Sleep Apnea Doctor prints out. I have found and downloaded the Clinicians manual and the ResScan 3.7 manual. This is a great website.

Thanks for your help,
Dan

ResScan 3.7 was intended for professional use only, just like ResScan 3.10, so there's no sense in being Polly Pureheart about either version.

If you want a legal version you are going to convince your sleep doctor - or your family doctor - to write a script for it. And even then it is most likely that your local DME providers still wouldn't sell it to you leaving your only option to buy it online which would most likely be considerably cheaper anyway.

Look at it this way, I don't know about Mexico, but the USA and Canadian governmental "powers that be" are the only countries that insist on the software being restricted to use by or on the advice of a licensed physician. Those on the Continent don't have that problem.

The data is part of your medical history and medical records. You have a LEGAL RIGHT to those medical records under HIPAA. So why restrict the simple software to access those "medical records"? It is YOUR health, YOUR therapy and YOUR sleep. Its just a "power play" the medical profession managed to sucker the government into upholding. Money and power talk. Much too loudly in this country.

Thanks for the fast reply. I apologize for sounding like "Polly Pureheart". I can get like that sometimes. I was just very frustrated at Resmed for putting that restriction on the product. I also get pissed at the people on eBay that are selling software illegally.

I was under the mistaken impression that I could purchase a version of ResScan 3.7 for $29.95 that allowed me to view the data without allowing me to make any pressure changes. This came from an eBay ad:
ResMed ResScan Version 3.7 software for the Resmed S8 CPAP machines.
ResScan 3.7 does NOT adjust the settings of your CPAP machine.
OTHER VERSIONS ARE AVAILABLE, JUST ASK

I also wasn't sure if the 3.10 software would let me plot the results directly. Someone had told me that with 3.10, the data was uploaded to ResMed and then plotted from there. Since it sounds like 3.7 and 3.10 both work in the same way, I will order the 3.10 version from the Australian company.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I bought the software from the guy on E-bay. Paid by PayPal, he sent a link for the download. I don't know if it is legit or not, but I would assume that ResMed would have shut him down if it wasn't legit. ResMed did make him pull down his ad for 3.10, so that is what he means by other versions being available. He has a perfect feedback track record so far.

Just after I bought this software, someone here posted a link to the ResMed download site. All you have to do is click the box saying that you are a professional, and it lets you download it.

If you really want to buy a legit copy, you can buy the retail version from the on-line store in Australia.

In any event, you really do want to get this software. Tracking your treatment is essential, especially when you are just getting started or have made any changes.

Hi John

Do you really think its advisable to post this info here... it really puts into question whether that method will be available to others soon.

Perhaps you should "delete" your Posting and PM them if you want to provide the info...
