Anyone else noticed

Post by Grabraham » Mon Oct 03, 2005 4:42 pm

The higher than normal Female to male population here. By higher than normal I mean that most online forums I have been around are like 30-1 male (at least in active posters) I think it is great! I have been a little surprised since one of the "Risk Factors" for OSA is being a Male

To me it is great that there is such a high level of women involvement. I think it is a contributing factor to the far better behaviour here.

I am sure a few of us males who have belonged to dominantly male forums, know how such places can deteriorate so quckly when two alpha males (or alpha wannabees) get into tail sniffing & decide to scrap.

Also, the great mix here IMHO helps towards better understanding some of the "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" challenges we may experience in our more direct lives

DSM

(Now as an example, in a mostly male forum, I would have written this post using entirely different words, but our mixed company IMHO dictates a far more considered choice of expression )

I guess more men are less comfortable talking about their medical problems with others.

May I add, though, the crop of men we do have are a pure delight to have on board and always...well, 99% of the time are perfect gentlemen.

Actually the amount of women on the borad is disheartening. I was looking into a sex change operation as a cure for OSA

Bad idea!!
Catch the CSI episode regarding said topic.
Yuck!

Snoring is becoming a very feminine trait. I (used to ) be able to suck the curtains right of the rods and make the window panes rattle.
How attractive!!!!
Better stay a guy. It's expected of them.
WooHoo! Life is good.

Which leads me to a cute joke I got on email this morning.

Two women are sitting in church. One leans over and whispers to the other, "My butt is falling asleep!"

To which the other woman replied, "I know. I heard it snore three times."

Well I think it really is simply that we males are too much of "Ugh! Me strong! Me not have any medical problems! Ugh! Ugh!" and not enough of "You know, I snore like a freight train, maybe I should get this checked out before it does some real damage."

My excuse, such as it is, is that I didn't really know or understand this OSA thing. Heck, if it weren't for my wife, I probably never would have ever dealt with it at all.

We males are often raised to be "the tough guy" no matter what. Even when it's just plain stupid not to take care of our health. Hack your hand off with a power saw, no problem. Just duct tape that baby back on and finish the job...

I guess I can take some comfort in knowing that I have an "equal opportunity" (or non gender-specific) disease.

I wish more of the 2465 (current number) registered users would participate. And, it would be interesting to know the breakdown by gender of that number.

I have three daughters, a wife, and I have learned and appreciated many things, peeing sitting down solves so many problems for example.

I often wonder what a world we could have inherited had women played a more dominant role in our history......

Sean,

Amen. And I have wondered about the state of the world in similiar vein many times over.

BTW: We tacked a boy on both sides of the 3 girls.

Boy...a lot of "stuff" went through my head when reading this post. Unfortunately, most of it was kind of derogatory toward men. I love you guys but geez...men are.....well maybe I shouldn't finish that statement.

If women ruled the world we would be living in a much better world. Women get things done! They identify the problem, work on a solution and then implement it. Men just make problems IMHO. Right Ladies??? Guys avoid problems...women attack them. That's why there are so many ladies on this site. We have a problem and we're figuring out the solution. Yes, there are men on the site, but like Grabraham pointed out, there aren't a whole lot of them. Why not? Don't guys want to feel better?

Yes, IMHO women are definitely the superior sex.

Amy,

After reading that post, all I will say is, you're a far braver woman than I am. Put on your helmet and wait for the fallout (I have a feeling it's coming).
