What if it breaks?

Post by Lady Marian » Sun Jan 31, 2010 8:42 pm

My insurance is similar to many others, I think, in that they rent-to-own the CPAP machine. After 9 months (or something), it's paid for and it's mine. What if it stops working after that? Can anyone share experiences they've had with having machines repaired? I'm sure that different insurers and DMEs have different procedures, but I'd like to hear about whatever situations anyone has dealt with. Thanks in advance.

Most machines have a two year warenty. If it breaks during that time your supplier should loan you one until yours can be sent back for repair. If it is after two years but not five years old most insurance companys will pay for repairs with a loaner as well. Many of us have purchased a used machine as a back-up because if it breaks it will most likely be in the middle of the night!! This back-up can also be used until the repairs can be made. Used machines on cpapauction.com make good back-ups and are often not very expensive.

My machine broke right at bedtime. I got it from my ex-DME. I took it to my new DME they loaned me a machine. My machine was under warranty and ResMed ended up giving me a new machine. I have a backup machine that is not an auto, and gives no data--but it got me through the night that first night. I would pick up an extra machine if I could find one for a good price.

I waited for years for mine to break so I could get a new one! 14 years and the thing still runs.
BUt I got a new one anyone. I was going to try to get rid of it someplace, but according to the board here, back ups are sometimes needed. So I will hang on to the old "snuffy" just in case.
