gallbladder surgery and pain when using cpap

Post by meusion » Sun Dec 27, 2009 10:48 pm

I had my gallbladder out about a week ago and haven't been able to use my cpap machine because on the inhalation I was feeling pain where the gallbladder was removed. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I wait for the incisions to heal or try something else? I just tried it again tonight and was feeling sharp pains.

Do you have aerophagia? Did you have aerophagia before the surgery?

Don't you think this is something to discuss with your doctor?

Have you tried taking anything for the discomfort?

I would not go without my machine if at all possible. Recovery will probably take longer if you are not using it since you aren't getting the rest your body requires to repair itself.

Yes, please call your doctor. Write down the details of your pain so you can be clear when describing them.

Yes ditto here..call your doctor. Also note if you have other symptoms like fever (?) etc. If your doctor says everything is ok, then maybe contact your sleep doctor. Maybe you can lower your pressure a bit while you are healing. The gall bladder is near the diaphragm so it would make sense that you could have some discomfort on inspiration. But you have to see your doctor to make sure everything is healing as it should.

Thanks for the replies, I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing. Will talk to the doctor tomorrow.

Did you have laparoscopic surgery or open? I had just a tiny incision in my belly button. Used CPAP starting in recovery room and afterwards. I never had ANY pain from the incision so CPAP was no problem at all.

I had aches in my shoulders from CO2 that had migrated into the joints.
Funny they never caught my apnea. . . I've have several surgeries before cpap.
Maybe they just shoved me into a corner and ignored me.

Talk to your Doctors by all means. In the mean time I would sleep in a recliner and lower my pressure. Sleeping sitting up will help with breathing and"should" help you get ok sleep even with a lower pressure. I slept in my recliner for a week or more after I had mine out.
