Humidifier and Nasel congestion
Humidifier and Nasel congestion
Will using your cpap humidifier help ease nasel congestion? We have a whole house humidifier so I have not been using my cpap humidifier for quite a while. I am just wondering if this will help? The reason I quit using the humidifier was that I was getting rain out. I finially found out my setting was too high so I set it lower but have not used it yet. We live in Denver CO and it is very dry.
Re: Humidifier and Nasel congestion
A lot of people find the humidifier, especially on higher settings, aggravates congestion, but if you're in Denver you should try yours out and see if it helps. Dryness can feel like congestion too sometimes, so you have to judge for yourself. Why not try a nasal rinse, like Flonase?

The humidifier made my congestion worse.
Re: Humidifier and Nasel congestion
I absolutely have to have humidifcation! In our humid summers here in the South, I reduce it to passover with my Hybrid mask but my pillow mask needed 1/3 max setting. Now that cooler weather has arrived, I hadda turn my humidifier up to about the 1/3 max setting (with OptiLife pillow mask last 2 winters I had to set humidifier at 3/4+ max).
So, your mask and relative humidity plus your individual need for humidification all are factors that affect whether you need to use your xPAP's heated humidifier.

Re: Humidifier and Nasel congestion
I found the humidifier has dramatically reduced my congestion - never had rainout even when I put it at max when I had a cold.

Yeah, I live in Northwestern Wyoming and our weather/humidity is fairly comparable to yours. I never could handle the heated humidification......I think I tried it two nights and gave up (too much rainout and I didn't like the warm feeling), so I just left it off with water in the tank and have been using it in "passover" mode ever since. In three nights, the water level will drop about 3/4", so I know I'm getting some humidity and the cool air keeps my nasal passages open. I use it this way all year round.Edgeguy wrote:Will using your cpap humidifier help ease nasel congestion?
