Machine question

Post by Lavendel » Wed Dec 08, 2004 9:09 pm

I have a prescription for a regular CPAP machine. During my tests I had quite a range of pressures needed to keep my airway open...all the way to 19. They set my machine at an "average". Sometimes it's not high enough. My question is...is it possible to get an autopap machine with the prescription I have or do you have to have one that specifically says auto pap? I have no insurance right now, so no insurance company is involved. I am new here to Arkansas, though, & don't have a dr. here yet.

If you are paying yourself get a script for a autotitrating unit. Do not accept anything less.. Buy it on line, you are looking at about $500-$550 for the auto unit and $100 for a mask.. Why waste time suffering with a plain cpap when you can have AUTO instead.. https://www.cpap.com Resmed has the S8 pioneer which is similar to Spirit but much smaller. should be out soon. Last I heard was january.. May be worth the wait...

The 420E is small and here now. Made in France

Resperonics biflex is actually made in USA !

Resmed made in Australia

So I would have to get another presciption for the auto pap? With no insurance & living in a new state I hated to have to pay a "new" dr. for an appt. just to wite me the prescription. Now I'm wondering if I can contact my old dr. & ask for a prescription for the auto pap. Thanks for the information. I'd really like to get an auto pap.

Many, and I mean many sleep docs dont believe in autopaps. Their effectivenss (in their view) has not been proven. What I would do is see if cpap.com (cheapest cpap dealer around) will sell you an autocpap. Otherwise, call the doctor and ask for an auto. Just tell the receptionist that you prefer an auto. If she is reluctant insist that she get the doctor on the phone. I dont see how he will charge you to rewrite the prescription. Heck, you may not even need a new prescription.
