Water under CPAP after nights use

All,

I have been using my CPAP since May of 2007 and have had an issue over the past week where every morning my CPAP (Respironics Remstar Plus M Series) has water under it and the chamber is empty. Normally I never empty the chamber at night, humidifier is set to 4 and I sleep about 6 hours.

Question to all of you is, does anyone know what is causing this water? I would guess there is a 1/4 to a 1/2 cup maybe on the floor directly under the CPAP. The chamber does not appear to be leaking when I fill it and let it sit. I read that the swivel type elbow for this CPAP was discontinued due to leaking so I removed it and connected my hose directly and the problem continues. I thought maybe I had yanked the machine, causing it to "spill" in my sleep but after 5 nights, I don't believe that is happening.

Lincare is going to send me a new chamber but I don't know if that is the problem. Has anyone else experienced this? Google didn't have much on leaks other than mask leaks.

The only time I ever had aleak like that was when I didn't quite get the chamber completely sealed.

If your chamber can be squeezed shut and opened that could be the problem. or the seal could be nicked and a bit is dribbling out.

If you can't get it to leak by sitting out by itself , how long did it sit out??? Leave it out for 6 or 8 hours and check results.

Also does it do this everyday?? If so, perhaps a new chamber will fix your issue....

if the chamber gaskets on the water chamber are rectangualr and there is a slide lock to open the chamber; these chambers are known to leak. If should be replaced with a chamber that has a lift up and out lock on it.

Thanks for both responses. I figured it out and you were both right, even though I looked at the seal I found that under the lock the o-ring had rolled and I couldn't see it from the outside. actually I noticed it by looking through the side. It wouldn't leak just sitting, even if I tipped it to that end but it would leak when I turned on the machine and air was forced into the chamber.

Yes, it is a slide lock on the end. The lock is rather loose so when I receive the new chamber I will retire this one.
