Rick,

The ResMed S8 Elite II is a straight cpap (continuous positive airway pressure) machine that is set at one pressure.

The REMed S8 AutoSet is an apap (automatic positive airway pressure) machine that is set at a range of pressures. The apap seeks out the correct pressure to relieve each apnea.

Auto titration happens when the doctor sends you home with an apap for a week, collects the information, and then sets your machine at the needed pressure.

I have been researching these two machines as well. I am NOT an expert, but after a conversation with the rep from my DME supplier I am pretty sure I'll be getting the Auto II. I have only ever used a CPAP, but I was told that with the Auto II you can choose APAP or CPAP, which gives you more flexibility now or in the future. As far as I can tell, the Auto II is the same as the Elite II PLUS the APAP option.

NO!

APAPs do not respond during an apnea event. They will score the apnea event and depending on the particular circumstances may dynamically adjust the treatement pressure following the event, to alleviate the possible occurance of future apnea events.

Cheers,

Bill

Bill,

Thanks for your correction. Although the difference to me is a minor one, I do not wish to give out incorrect information in the least. Hope all is well with you.
