detailed data loss on respironics machines
detailed data loss on respironics machines
It has been a while since visiting this forum and my searches have not proved fruitful. Has anyone solved the 2 day loss of detailed data syndrome? It still drive me nuts.

Yes erase the card after you download it. If you can't do that because of insurance/DME reasons you just have to live with the delay in data. You should still be able to get a good idea of where you're at with the other data you do download.

Re: detailed data loss on respironics machines
I have six SmartCards (two came with machine purchases, primary unit and backup unit, both units the same model) and use one for each sleep session. A sleep session for me starts when I lay down and ends when I get out of bed (for a bathroom visit or when I get up in the morning). Five months ago when I started CPAP, I needed all six, now I only need two/night and rarely three. Anyway, since starting CPAP therapy in March, I have never lost any data. None at all. Each morning, I download the smartcard data to EncorePro and then reformat the card using the MyCPAP utility for reuse that night. I have owned my machine since Day 1 so I have no need to save any data for insurance compliance reasons.

Re: detailed data loss on respironics machines
thanks for the replies. Those are work arounds which I would rather not do. I was hoping that perhaps someone figured out how to fix the issue or if Respironics fixed the issue. I guess this hasn't happened. Pity. Oh well.

Re: detailed data loss on respironics machines
The new System One uses SD cards which have a much higher storage capacity that smart cards.
It also has on-board memory for data storage, which the M series lacks.
So I would expect that data is handled in a totally new way.

Re: detailed data loss on respironics machines
The M-Series has on-board storage. In order to do its LCD display of 7-day and 30-day rolling averages for AHI, System Leak, Therapy Hours, and 90% Pressure, it must store some data internally over at least a 30-day time period. Its storage needs are minimal since none of this LCD-needed internal data is time-stamped. For System Leak and 90% Pressure, it reports Simple Averages (not weighted averages). This approach also cuts down on its internal storage needs.
A newer model, with greater internal and external (SD) storage, will allow Respironics to do more recording/reporting with smaller time intevals if they so choose. If they don't, I will be disappointed.

Re: detailed data loss on respironics machines
In my view... you will be dissapointed. Respironics does not view us as its customers. They view the medical community as their customer which generally could care less about the detailed data. They generally just want compliance information.

Re: detailed data loss on respironics machines
I have been on pap since 11/08, and the only times I have "lost data" was when I forgot to return the card to the machine - operator error.
Once I thought the data had been lost, but I simply copied the smart card again and the data was there.

Re: detailed data loss on respironics machines
I started to erase my SmartCard weekly after reading reports here of periodic lost data if reformatting of the card isn't done on a regular basis. I save my daily reports on the pc, and I save the weekly report (with trend and summary data) on Sundays, before I reformat the card.
My sleep doc recently asked for my compliance data. Since I couldn't pull the info from the card for anything more than a week's time, I opened each of my saved weekly reports, took a screen-shot of the Summary of Compliance - All Data for each week, saved them in a Word document, and submitted that to the doc.
Sorry this doesn't answer the OP's question. But unless/until the lost data issue is rectified by Respironics, I'll keep doing what I'm doing. It works for me, and none of my data has "gone missing." (Except for the two nights when I forgot to put the SmartCard back in the machine, resulting in NO DATA FOR YOU!)

Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
