SPO Medical 7500 Pulse Oximeter
SPO Medical 7500 Pulse Oximeter
I am looking at purchasing the SPO Medical 7500 Pulse Oximeter and am seeking advice from the forum.
I see two ways to buy this online.
1) With software and USB cable ~$400
2) without software and USB cable ~$175
Website says its "Compatible with commercially available software used in sleep apnea applications."
I'd like to spend less if possible. Has anyone purchased this oximeter and used it with ResScan V7.0 directly without using the provided software? and is the USB cable a standard cable, similar to that used with a digital camera? I have plenty of those.
In short: I'd like to buy the device and download the data into my current software using a stanard USB cable to avoid paying the full $400.
If anyone has the answers to these questions - I'd appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks!

Re: SPO Medical 7500 Pulse Oximeter
The nice thing about this forum is your questions will lead to more questions. The more you research the smarter you become.
The oximeter will let you know if you are getting enough oxygen. Mine also tracks my pulse.
Do you have to have the Oximeter connected to the ResMed?
Pulse Oximeters start at $ 48.00. I bought a CM550 D Plus Oximeter online for that price. I received software with the unit and it does a nice job of reporting. It is sometimes difficult to get the data into the computer, but for the price it works O.K. Try searching the archives as you will find more interesting information on these devices.

Don't think the SPO7500 will work without the VitaBase software. I think the sale of the one with out the cable and software is for use in multiple applications where you need only one copy of the software. Mine works fine but I have not found any way to read what it records through the night without the software.

Hi Schwawi
I recently got a CMS-60D on Ebay retail for AUD170.
Its got the lot - software, USB lead and timer reset for easy comparison with current cpap software.
The only drawback is the manual, which was designed to be read by ants. I had to photocopy and enlarge mine in order to read it.
Details are at

Your smartest move would be to purchase the Oximeter with its software from turnermedical.com at a cost of about $409.
The product is good....Turner Medical is safe to do business with....and you can't go wrong doing it this way.

Re: SPO Medical 7500 Pulse Oximeter
thanks for the feedback everyone. I am looking at the turnermedical product and have confidence it will work. The CMS Model 60-D Pulse Oximeter is a new one i havent seen before and much cheaper. Looks like i need to take a closer look before deciding.
thanks again for taking the time to reply.

You may want to check out this Review of the CMS-60D, if your considering that product as well.

Also see this thread about the CMS:

I am in the same boat. Considering both of these devices.
The finger probe on the SPO seems more stream line than the CMS-60D. And after reading OutAsync's comments in the one post... I worry about the CMS being accurate (especially with movement). I wonder if she every got her unit swapped out and if that fixed her problem or not? I would hate to think her blood pressure was really that high.
I am torn between these two. Can't decide if the "watch style" of the SPO is worth twice the money. But if the finger sensor is so big that it creates data problems with movement (on the CMS)... I just don't know if thats the case or not. Would love to hear an update from others who own these meters.
I don't really like the idea of strapping that thing on my wrist... but the SPO might be the better unit. I am having a hard time deciding.

Re: SPO Medical 7500 Pulse Oximeter
Hi,
I have the CMS 50 D Plus. It works well, but I believe it is may be more fragile than the one Turner advertised. I have had mine for almost two months. I believe the oximeter is spot-on. But I think it records my pulse a liittle lower than appears on my blood pressure machine.
If you have Vixta, the CMS also requires a UART bridge to the USB port. From this factor, perhaps you would have to have the units USB cord.
Good Luck Jan

Hi Socal Monkey
I know how you feel. I originally decided upon a wrist oximeter, and asked a friend to order it for me on Ebay. He forgot to do it, and when I checked a week later he then promised to order it straight away. He did - the wrong one.
So I ended up with the CMS-60D, a finger oximeter. My first thought on getting a finger oximeter was that it would not stay on through the night. So far I have had no problems. Nor have I had problems with my finger, it stays on the same one all night. Finally, as far as I can tell looking at the software reports in the morning, there are no untoward results that might indicate false reporting. I keep it on when I go to the bathroom, so it keeps the same time as my Sandman Auto , and I can easily compare the different reports, even if I cannot see them on the same screen.
I was going to get my friend to return this, but as it does the job, and is cheaper, I kept it.
cheers
