Thoughts become things
Thoughts become things
In the world of cycling, from the professional races to
the smallest rides that raise funds for a particular cause,
the jersey is the coveted prize.
It is your trophy.
It is the symbol of having completed a particular event.
It is to be worn again and again, with pride of accomplishment.
It lets other cyclist know what caliber of cyclist you are
and events you have completed.
Three years ago, I was involved in a cycling forum connected
to a training program that was developed specifically for cyclist.
I made some friends and as a motivational tool, we created a little
competition in doing one of the yoga positions. As a result of that
competition, we created a cycling jersey, so we could take that motivation
on the road with us. It was a collaborative effort to design the jersey.
I found a manufacture and brought it into reality.
It was a lot of work but it was fun and we all wear those jerseys,
with pride.
On our ride last Sat., I was telling Doug about the need to get the word
about cpap out to the world. He casually said, "maybe you should design
a cpap cycling jersey."
Yes, why not design a cpap cycling jersey??
I know there are a few cyclists here.....but my thought is this:
This would be a cycling jersey, but anyone could wear this.
It doesn't matter if you cycle, run, walk...whatever,
you could enjoy this jersey. It will make a statement about you.
It says I use cpap and I'm glad I do.
Cycling jerseys are a very utilitarian piece of equipment.
They are generally made of very light but durable space age material.
They wick moisture from your body and keep you cool.
If it's cold, I just wear a polypro T under the jersey.
They have three pockets on the back for carrying "stuff".
They will usually have the logos of businesses and organizations
that are sponsors of that particular event.
Possible logos for this jersey:
cpaptalk.com Pur-Sleep Padacheek
To be cost effective, you need about 25-30 jerseys produced.
Three years ago, we produced 20 jerseys at ~$75/jersey.
On the internet and in your local bike shop, jerseys run from $20 to $300.

Sleep Apnea survivor. Hoseheads R US. Sleep Study Graduate. ALL with images like Tatto's. Yeah, that'd do it.
EDIT: Ask me about sleep apnea. Surviving sleep is a good thing -- ask me how.
Sorry, y'all, silly mood right now

Interesting idea. You'd have to come up with some pretty sharp graphics, though.

My FIRST thought is...
A large number of CPAPers are--well--"large". Overly so. (I sure am!) That's a major contributing factor for OSA.
I'm trying to picture a herd of typical CPAPer in skin-tight, space-age cycling jerseys. I gotta tell you, the mental image ain't pretty... It would be like advertising SlimFast on bikini bottoms!
While I admire your creativity and thirst for camaraderie, I doubt the project would fly with that choice of apparel. Sweatshirts, maybe? Or mu-mus?
But I could be wrong...

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

Hey friend,
Email me and let me know how to become a sponsor. If it is in the budget, we would consider this.
Thanks carbonman,
Karen

LinkC, good point!
One of the cruel truths that cycling has taught me,
for better or worse,
spandex does not.....can not lie.

Here's a marketing idea for this forum:
Put a tennis ball in the middle back pocket and you have a lightweight, breathing, and stylish stay-off-of-your-back pajama top.

Re: Thoughts become things
On a biotech-stock-related forum much like this one, I suggested a t-shirt promoting angiogenesis and Judah Folkman's approach to killing cancer tumors. It was mostly a wise-crack, but many people loved the idea. I wound up making a silk-screened t-shirt for around 60-some-odd people. They mailed me cash or checks, I mailed them completed t-shirts...not ONE person stiffed me for the money who ordered, and not one person got stiffed for the t-shirt. I was heartened by the honesty, and went to a shareholders' meeting where I met people wearing the t-shirt under their suit coats.
Good luck on the idea -- I'd love something clever for this issue!
And yes, as we think, so we become...

Re: Thoughts become things
I like the idea of the shirt... but, as observed, spandex does not lie. I'm more into embroidered golf shirts, myself. Oh, and the design-engineer husband would have to have one with a pocket for his pen and calculator. <g> But not the one in the middle of the back for a tennis ball!
"Survive sleeping. Ask me how..."
Hmm. Reminds me of the neck badges I've worn at work.

Re: Thoughts become things
I like the jersey idea best. I'd pass on a sweatshirt, but I could be persuaded to get behind the t-shirt idea.
