Sleep Apnea made the front page of CNN.com

i read the article was pretty interesting. i know for sure the word needs to get out about sleep apnea

Yes but then under it they showed the example person who was thin having it and how he was surprised by it.

I give the article credit for mentioning thin people with the condition.

I think about 70% of U.S. population is overweight and just wish this had been left out:

Dr. Atkins used to refer in his writings to the 'weight loss industry'. Doctors make lots of money off patients trying to lose weight. Not that losing weight isn't a good thing to do. It just shouldn't be used to make merchandise out of people. We see enough of this here among the 'hosed'!

I'm not just single. I also live alone, and I had no idea I had a sleep disorder until I spent an overnight stay in Sedona with a friend in September of 2007. We shared a hotel room, and she said in the morning, "I think you have sleep apnea." She listened to me stop breathing numerous times that night and said I sat up in my bed, gasping, at one point. She said my eyes were open (!) when that happened, and she asked if I was okay, but I didn't answer and just laid back down and went back to sleep (such as it was, anyway). Of course, I wasn't aware of any of it.

Things started to make sense to me then, and I asked my PCP to send me for a sleep study. I was scared witless by my study results (AHI 107) and was on the hose within a couple of weeks of my titration.

I'm thankful my friend was aware of the symptoms of sleep apnea and brought it to my attention. Who knows how much longer I would have suffered through every night, totally unaware of my problem?

I read the article too! but one thing they failed to mention, although snoring is most common among those who have SA, you can also have SA without snoring from what i gather. I don't snore but still might have SA

When he started wearing the CPAP, he confesses, he'd leave it behind when he went out of town.

I have an appt tomorrow with the dr. to discuss it. Also when I registered, i did it because my husband had SA which he is on CPAP and doing quite well.
I only began suspecting I may have SA with in the last couple of months. It took me that long to put the pieces together and I'm still not sure but I'll find out tomorrow or at least what the dr. thinks anyway.

I am single/Divorced. 2 fantastic OR nurses noticed my disrupted snoring at a campout, and got me hooked up with the ENT Doc for a UPPP. That reduced the Apnea, but not the snoring. So, I was put on CPAP.
