How hard is it to support yourself with a "intelliPAP AutoAdjust DV54D-HH with SMARTFLEX?"

I am trying to decide between a brand-new "intelliPAP AutoAdjust DV54D-HH with SMARTFLEX" and he used "ResMed S8 "AutoSetâ„¢ II CPAP Machine" which would be only slightly less expensive. Both will have heated humidifier. I am very new to using a CPAP machine having only used one for a few nights. The one I am using is a ResMed S8 Escape model I not a model II. It is on loan from my health plan till September 20. My biggest complaint with it has been my nose has been cold without a heated humidifier. As of now I have only found a downloadable manual for the "ResMed S8 "AutoSetâ„¢ II CPAP Machine" not the "intelliPAP AutoAdjust DV54D-HH with SMARTFLEX" but even if I should find the other manual what all do you need to know to support yourself using a CPAP machine. Is changing the pressure range just about it? My respiratory therapist tells me there is no respiratory therapist in my health plan that knows anything about intelliPAP CPAP machines.

Other questions are how a few hour machine is likely to give me trouble free service for a few years at least. What is likely to be the cost of repair for both machines that are used machine with two months guarantee and the new one with three year warranty.

My respiratory therapist gave me reasons why "ResMed S8 "AutoSetâ„¢ II CPAP Machine" may be better for me. That is the machine that the overwhelming majority of the therapist know. It generates a report which is minute by minute and they would not be able to accept a report from another machine even if I could get a minute by minute report. They feel they do not like me looking at my own reports. Looking at your own reports makes you conscience of numbers not conscience of how you feel. But I am wondering if I should be conscience of the numbers for this is not my only health problem. I had a micro about repair to my heart which did not give a perfect result. It left me with some stenosis which I understand gives me high blood pressure of the lungs. This only adds to the high blood pressure of the lungs caused by Apnea and hypoxia. So maybe I should be looking at my numbers and the numbers generated in the "intelliPAP AutoAdjust DV54D-HH with SMARTFLEX" seem very intelligible to me. I have seen reports generated ResMed software on this site and it is hard to understand, as well as being hard and expensive to get such software in the United States.

The way my health plan operates is if you have sleep apnea they recommend to the overwhelming majority people (most of whom unlike me have 80% coverage for equipment) get a ResMed fix pressure machine. Then you should periodically loan an automatic machine to get reports that they will interpret and a ajust your pressure accordingly . She tells me since I have no equipment coverage this will cost me $40 for a reservoir instead of being $8 for people with equipment coverage if they want to have the heated humidifier too. It appears that I will have to do this loan in a of an auto machine even if I have a "intelliPAP AutoAdjust DV54D-HH with SMARTFLEX" since those are the only reports they will accept and know how to read. I do not know if that means $40 or a cold nose every time I need to be tested if I buy any of the machine than a "ResMed S8 "AutoSetâ„¢ II CPAP Machine." Will cold nose results be accurate if you are used to a warm nose?

Hello
I have never had a data capable machine, or an apap, and am not particularly computer literate. I have had a Fisher and paykel for 8 yrs and it has been great, but now would like a 12v capable machine with apap. Will the Auto intellipap provide the data Massey mentions in the original post, without buying additional equipment or software?
Is it is as simple as removing the card from the apap and placing it in the computer card reader? Would I need to download an application?
Thanks

Does not require software or high computer literacy to generate reports for the "intelliPAP AutoAdjust DV54D-HH with SMARTFLEX" go to the URL https://www.intellipap.com. You then have to do these things to see a sample report . directly in the horizontal blue bar near the top of the page that has the words in it "language clear Generate Reports Help" go to the word help and click on it. will take you to a new page with sample code to generate a daily report for example go to the word "AutoAdjust Codes" under those words you'll see the daily code example which is F6CD-39F-3570 highlight this to do a cut and paste. Once cut go to the URL top your browser and delete the words Help.htm from the end of the URL to get back to the original page by hitting the return key. You now have to change to the tab "VD54 AutoAjust Cpap" directly beneath the words in blue paste your code F6CD-39F-3570 in the text box labeled last day. The page will verify this is the correct code with two checkmarks. Scroll down to the words "generate report"and click on that button. To see the generated report you must scroll down once more and you should see it.

The codes on the Intellipap Auto machine are Smart Codes...this is compliance data and gives a snapshot of your therapy for either 1, 7, 30, 60, or 90 days. It isn't the kind of data that the SmartLink software can generate. The software will provide the detailed view of your therapy and indicate when and to what extent your events are occurring. It will show leaks and when they happen to see if they correlate to your events, and much more information. This is the data that is usually viewed by doctors or RT's to monitor the nitty gritty details of your therapy. It is advantageous to have this if you plan to be pro-active and monitor your own therapy.

Directly below is screenshots I took of a ResMed report available elsewhere on this site.

Emilia - as of now have you gotten your cpap machine and are you looking at your reports the ones that are the same as doctors look at. Are you finding those reports comprehensible.

Thank you for that reply.

In addition to Emilia's reply I would be additionally appreciative if someone would look at my above question in regard to high blood pressure of the lungs caused by both some stenosis of my heart micro valve and apnea/hypoxia . Does this make it particularly critical to look at your apnea/hypoxia index. How quickly does high blood pressure lungs rise with the apnea/hypoxia index. I am finding the report shown in screenshots directly below incomprehensible at the present moment. The Smart codes report I am finding quite comprehensible.

Hi,
I don't have the SmartLink software set up yet because they sent me the wrong disk. The correct disk should arrive at any time so once I have it, I'll be able to post my reports.

The reports you show are the detailed reports from a ResMed machine, and I expect the ones from SmartLink for the Intellipap will be similar in detail.

I began my therapy last night on my new Intellipap AutoAdjust with Smartflex, and I had a very good night! My post on that can be seen here: viewtopic/t54979/First-Night-Success.html

Earlier in this thread there was discussion regarding the IntelliPAP AuotAdjust and Pulse Oximetry. The Nonin Pulse Oximeter does indeed interface with the AutoAdjust via the SmartLink Therapy Management system. However, with SmartLink v 1.6 the oximetry data was not integrated into the SmartLink software and therefore required exporting to the Nonin Nvision software to interpret. We are pleased to report that the data is now integrated with SmartLink 2.0 software.

We are working with CPAP.com now to provide all the information about both the Oximeter and SmartLink 2.0 solutions. More to come.

DeVilbiss Marketing - could use please speak to whether the Smart codes reports should be totally adequate for a non-clinician user. What additional benefits will non-clinician users get from purchasing your software?

It really depends on the level of detailed data you desire. SmartCode will provide you a snapsnot of your efficacy data over a period of time, which for some is a good dashboard of their therapy. However, some IntelliPAP users want to gauge their therapy every night and therefore require the SmartLink Therapy Management System which provides detailed data for each night of use. It really is personal preference and/or requirements.

Please let me know if you have additional questions

Devilbiss Marketing,
Thanks for posting these sample reports.
I just ordered a IntelliPAP AutoAdjust Travel CPAP Machine with SmartFlex.
I will now go back and order the SmartLink Version 2.0 Software with Module, Cables, Data Card and Card Reader to go with it.

Will upgrading the Firmware on the Intellipap give it Smartflex?
Or is it a completely new machine?

If you read the following thread, you will see that someone did do the firmware upgrade and got the Smartflex activated on his machine. He goes on to say how much better he felt after using it!
