First Night Success!
First Night Success!
I had my first night on therapy with my new Intellipap AutoAdjust with Smartflex. I spent a bit of time practicing earlier in the evening to be sure my mask was sitting right and what the leak situation was. I decided to try the Sleepweaver Advanced mask since I figured it would be the dream mask to use if it worked. It took a bit of adjustment to get it sitting right, but I had a leak at the bridge of my nose. Thankfully, the wonderful folks on here had talked about all kinds of fixes for leaks at the bridge, and I had purchased a box of blister bandages ahead of time. I slapped one of those puppies onto the bridge of my nose, and that sealed it! Woot!!
At my real bedtime, I not only had to get ready for my first night on the mask, I had to introduce my cat to the new equipment and the funny new thing on mom's face. He took one look at me in that thing; his eyes got really big; and off he ran to parts unknown in the house
Light out and off to dreamland.... and, yes, I did dream! I slept about 4 hours when I awakened briefly. That should have been 2 good sleep cycles by my calculations. I got in another 3.75 hrs of sleep, but not as deep or consistent. All in all, a good first night of zzzzzz's!
I don't have my software set up yet, but the SmartCode on this machine does give out some basics for 1, 7, 30 days. So, looking at the code for 1 day, and realizing it also includes my practice time, my AHI is 4.5; 95th percentile pressure is 8.5; 90th percentile pressure is 8.0; NO LEAKS; and two things I am not sure about: NRI = 1.25 ; EPI = 3
UPDATE: Found out that NRI is non-responding event index -- events that do not need an adjustment in pressure on auto machine) EPI is exhale puff index -- # of exhales via mouth when inhalation was through mask. I had 3 but, this may be including when I said something to my cat Also, I forgot to mention that my pressure settings were 6 / 10 and I set the Smartflex at 2 with a ramp of 10 mins beginning at 5.
I don't feel like starting an marathon today, in fact, I am still a bit tired. I do feel more rested than usual. I'll get the software installed soon and my aim is to get the AHI lower. Once I can see if any events are occurring, and when, I'll have a clearer picture.
The journey has just begun.....

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: First Night Success!
Glad to hear that you had such a successful first night. You were able to problem solve with the mask immediately and you slept a good number of hours.
It will be interesting to see what the software shows. Hope you will be posting some charts.
It looks like you are well on your way to good therapy!
My cats were introduced to my cpap setup almost 8 years ago. Before cpap they would sleep on or beside me in bed. Now they will not come on the bed when I am hooked up. They have never once been interested in my cpap or the mask and hose that hangs on a hose management setup all day.
