Anyone try the "nomask.com" solution

Post by blomasky » Mon Jun 22, 2009 9:26 am

Being a mouth breather, I have found best success using a chin strap and nasal pillows. This "toy" looks appealing. Anyone use it? Feedback pls.

My experience with treating this condition without a mask had mixed results. As you can see from the short video linked below, eye protection in the form of a traditional "sleep mask" is mandatory since anything not nailed down has a tendency to become airborne.

You may note my wife's expression at the end of the clip; she was more than displeased to see every bit of her jewelry blown to kingdom come. Unfortunately, the dog's been on anti-anxiety medication ever since he had the misfortune to wander into the room just as the blower kicked into high gear ...... the vet says dogs of that breed are prone to hip problems anyway.

The good news is that I got my AHI numbers down to about 55 per hour, unfortunately the hydro costs about twelve bucks a night to operate the fan.

This is the mask I use and I like it. If you are a mouth breather, then you'll still need a chin strap.

Pros:
- No straps.
- Great for side-sleeping.

Cons:
- Pricey to maintain. If you go by the manufacturer's "replace" rate, you'll go broke unless your insurance company covers it. I typically use parts a lot longer than "they" say I can. I keep them clean and am careful with them when I take the mask apart to clean it.
- If you have TMJ, this mask may not work for you. FWIW, I do have TMJ, but I am able to use it.
- If you have a high titration, it may not work for you.
- If you use a hose management system, you'll have to adapt it. I use the HoZer and have to put it in a different place than they recommend as the mask hose does not route easily over the head.
- You must keep the hose clamps very tight.
- This is a one-size-fits-all mask and you have to dink around with it and adjust it for several nights until you get everything fit to you. This may entail getting out a 1/4" nutdriver and a phillips screwdriver.

Good going man... I see you are able to keep your mouth shut at those velocities.
