those poligrip strips

Post by mhorowit » Mon Apr 13, 2009 1:27 pm

Went looking thru the drugstore and I'm not sure what the Forum is describing is what I'm seeing.

What is offered is about 2" long and about 3/8" wide.

Is that what you are using? - Mike

Sounds like that's the right one, yes. Here in Australia they are actually called polident strips, I'm presuming that's the same everywhere.

You wet your lips - not too much, you'll probably need to practice a few times before you get it right. Too much & the strip will deteriorate & get soggy, too little and it won't stick. You place the strip between your lips and clamp down firmly. If the moistness was right, after a few minutes you'll find it has stuck well. You CAN open your lips if you need to, but in most people's case it takes conscious effort. If it does come unstuck during the night, sometimes it can be resealed, sometimes you may need to replace.

They've been great for my son, who continues to use them. In my case, I used them for about a year, and ran out one night. Found that after a lifetime of mouth breathing due to sinus, allergies, etc, they've trained me to breathe through my nose, and my mouth stays closed with the tongue in the correct position to block the throat. Bonus!!

Good luck, let me know how you go!
