Call the police, I'm being raped !!!

More of a rant than anything.
Back when I has issues with my machine and had it swapped out twice in 4 days, They asked if I needed anything else.
I said, a longer hose would be nice, they said they were on back order, do you want us to put your name on the list ?
I said yes, but how much is it ?
They said they'd have to submit it to insurance to find out.
Okay, I was 4 days sleep deprived, I said sure, sign me up.
Got the hose last month (10ft. resperonics), got the bill yesterday.
85 dollars submitted to insurance.
insurance paid 55, they want a co-pay of 30 from me.
I stopped by their office, and said hey whats the deal here.
Oh, thats what insurance allows us to bill, so we do.
On the other hand, I could have walked in to their office and they could have handed it to me, for $15 dollars.
Which in the begining I was in the office, and they never called to tell me it was here, to give me a pick up option, just mailed it to me.
I told them, I will pay the 30, but they will never see another dime from me again, that cpap.com will get ALL my business from now on.
They made a copy of my statement, which I had written the prices down from cpap.com and several other places on it, they're going to give my statement to the office director and see what they have to say about it.
I almost wish I was sleep deprived right now, Id be an absolute bastard then !!!
The rudest thing I said was "Your raping the insurance company and me along with them, No wonder the health care system is so screwed up in this country."
Their reply, "Everyone does it."
If grandma was here, I know she'd have said "if everyone else jumped off a cliff..........."
OKAY, ive vented I feel better.

That is just out of site for that, I just bought a 10 ft. hose and paid $13.00 out of pocket,
no insurance at all, This is something that the news stations need to get a hold of, you should
really think about doing that,

Brick and Mortar have other costs they cannot bill you, they can only bill you for items received. So they jack the prices up. It's true all over. Checked your car repair bill lately?

If you are getting excellent service from your Brick and Mortar, pay the price. If not, buy online.

This is true of every item you buy, every day. I buy just about everything except groceries online. It's just EASIER for me. Less stress, less miles running around, less time. In many cases, less money. Not always. Sometimes lower stress and faster shopping trumps lower price.

My UPS driver is grateful for me keeping him employed.

However, just yesterday I stumbled into a Brick & Mortar store I'd never visited before. I got excellent service, a great product, and it was less than buying the same thing online. I'll go there again. I normally buy CD's online, but FYE treated me good, and offered me both new and used CD's, and even offered me a 3 for 2 freebie. I was most pleased. Particularly since I was just killing time before an evening meeting.

the total bill is outrageous, and yes i understand that there is billing, handling, etc. but if i they had had it when i was there, it would have been 15 out of pocket.
since they billed insurance and mailed it, its 85, thats BS.
still waiting to hear from them, i will post what happens.

While I agree with Babette on the overall issue, I sure know how you feel about that deal.
No one likes to get 'taken for a ride' on price when the actual options were not laid out
before hand. It makes such a deal feel a double hit - 1st you feel you were set up, then
2nd gyped.

So you had a good reason to rant & here is one place you can do it & get our support.

thanks all for letting me vent, its just this whole thing is total BS, i cant believe my copay is 2 times what i could have bought it for walking in (plus what they billed ins.)
But I guarantee, I wont be walking in, calling in, etc any more, I'll just click on over to johhnys site and pay less, and I cant believe that insurance wont reimburse me for any of an 11.99 online purchase, but they'll pay 55 to a brick and mortar DME. Oh well, 11.99 online is still better than 30.

Hey Boston... go have a look at the post I just did about "Why I love CPAP.COM" ... kind of a larger illustration of your hose ordeal.

And, Babs... it's hard to push a hose up there at a DME or insurance company... cause their HEADS are in the way!

Did you consider bringing this complaint to your insurance company. Just why do they allow a charge so far above the market price for such an item. Its a hose! Since you not only pay the inflated co-pay you also pay for the insurance. Your state has an insurance commisioner and you have a congressman. I would do more than rant.

I don't believe you can call it "Rape" if you're a willing participant. Sounded like it was "consensual" to me.
If you picked up a hooker, would you ask her "how much?".......or just give her your credit card?

Well, the !@#$%^& office manager/director/bitch just called, and in the snottiest, better than you, smug tone said "this is how we bill everyone, we cant make an exception for you because your not happy."
I mentioned writing to senators, congressman, the insurance commissioner, she just said "its your stamp, we did nothing wrong or illegal."

Thats fine, cpap.com can have ALL my business now.
I think I will drop off my payment in person monday, and, im thinking,..... in pennies, all 3000 of them.
think they will count them before i get a receipt ???
my only question now, should it be in bulk or wrapped ???
