Using CPAP w/a cold

Post by johncuse48 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 8:13 am

Curious, I recently caught a cold and while I had my mask on my nose did not drip . I was wondering if anyone had put Vicks vapor rub in the humidifier to help with ones breathing? Just a silly thought

I put Vicks on my throat and chest. I don't dare put anything in the humidifier. Vicks is to be used externally only.
I was just reading the jar a few minutes ago.

Do not put any Vicks or other additives to your humidifier. It may damage the humidifier and warranty won't cover it since you are warned not to use anything but distilled water in the chamber.

What I do is put some Vicks on a small pad or cotton ball and place it near the intake at the back of the machine. You get the same benefit, but without the danger of damaging you water chamber. I have used http://www.pur-sleep.com aromatherapy to help ease the symptoms of a cold. He has a couple of different ones that are good for congestion. You may also try your health food store or day spas for aromatherapy scents.
