Thought you could help..i'm new

Post by sadali » Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:14 pm

I apologize if I offended some of you. I am a new c-pap user, as well as a new blogger. I thought this site was for trying to help others and exchange of info. Sure, I can google other things, but I thought if there were others on here with more experience than me, they'd be happy to share their info. I know I would love to help someone, if I can.

I wasn't aware I had to register, and I did post some questions about my specific issues. Guess I will have to do some more investigation.

To the few of you who tried to answer without venom, I thank you. A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO BLUEBONNETT WHO REALLY HELPED ME A LOT.

People here can help and help newbies all the time, but you were the one who alluded to your being a troll by your thread entitled "Guess you think I am a troll".

You can't seem to get cpap to work but we do really need more information to be able to help you out.

I know you found the newbie thread above, but did you read it and look at the links in my first post?

Welcome,
You don't have to register. It just makes it easier for you.
If you register you can list your machine, mask, pressure and you can keep track of your questions and answers and pull them up quickly.
By listing all that info other people won't have to ask you and you won't have to tell them over and over about your equipment.

You can also chat on here as their is a chat room. You can ask questions in there too. If you do ask questions, normally the conversation will stop or be put on hold and your question or questions answered.

You won't find a better site than this one. I tried those other sites that were recommended to you and I ended up here.

Good luck.

It would help tremendously if you would stick with ONE thread and make your responses in that one. You've started quite a few and people ARE trying to respond to you, but we don't know if you're reading our responses in the other threads you've started. Registration is NOT mandatory, but it makes it easier to track your posts and send Private Messages (PMs) to you.
Being new to this is understandable......we all were at one time.

Have you clicked on the Yellow Lightbulb icon (above) and read "Our Wisdom"? There's a lot of information in there.

You might try looking up at the top of your screen where there is a link for "new users" and "our wisdom". There is a ton of information up there and that information is what got me to where I could start to recover from my OSA and sleep at night with the mask and machine and all the little details that we need to know to make this therapy work.

Also, just a suggestion, keep track of the threads you start and when you respond, respond in those threads. It brings them back up to the top of the forum. This is called "bumping" your thread. I find if I post late at night or on Sundays, I won't get a response until I have bumped it back up to the top a few times. This is simply because if it gets lost in all the stuff going on here, people won't see it, or at least, the people who can help me won't see it. For example, this post you started here is actually a response to someone in the last thread you wrote (I know because I read it when trying to figure out how to help you). But because this is now a new thread, the person your responding to won't know you responded to them and you will also possibly make others mad at you for sounding disagreeable and tense without apparent cause (since they can't see the post your referring to).

I hope this helps. By the way, this is not a blog. This is a forum. There is an important distinction in the way information is processed. You don't just write answers on top of other answers in a forum like you do in a blog. You answer within the thread specifically related to the topic. I point it out because you say your new and also because the etiquette for blogs and forums are slightly different and I don't think you are meaning too but some of your posts have been insulting people and making them not really want to help you.

Gerry K.......thank you so much for your helpful and kind reply. I went on to register but it didn't ask me for any info on what type of equipment I have. I did post this information on a few of my previous posts, but I guess thats the wrong place to do it. I'm sorry, but I really am new at all of this. Can you or anyone tell me where I am supposed to fill out the info on my machine?

go to User Control Panel and find the profile part - open it and you will find places to put things included a part for equipment called edit equipment - you can add a verbal statement too in signature

look up at the light blue bar. on the left side it says, "user control panel". Click it.

Then you will come to a new screen. On the new screen you will see tabs that look like tabs on a file system. First one says Overview. Second one says profile. Click on profile.

Next screen: below the tabs on the left side it says in red: Edit Profile. Down one is Edit Equipment. Click on edit equipment

Next screen shows a number of options. Click on the arrow key after each option to see all the options and choose yours. Set allow others to see your cpap equipment to yes and set text or pictures to text. Then click on submit.

Under the Search line (above), there's an item that says "User Control Panel".
Click on that and then there will be "Tabs" above that sections and then options on the left-hand side of the screen for more selections within each of the categories.

I'm glad to see you registered. It will help YOU keep track of your own posts and you won't have to repeat info so much for everyone else to be able to keep up and help you.

To post your equipment, go to the User Control Panel. It's at the top left of the screen just under the search box. When you get there, click the word "Profile" under the large black letters "User Control Panel". When you get to the "Edit Profile" page, click the "Edit Equipment" tab on the left. Select your machine, mask and humidifier from the drop down tabs. In Additional Comments, post your settings if you know them. Be sure you select "Yes" to allow others to view your CPAP equipment. I recommend "Test" for how you would like your equipment displayed (the icons are cute, but it's hard to tell exactly what equipment you have and if someone doesn't have time to click on the icons to find out, you could miss out on valuable information that you might receive otherwise)! Then click "Submit" and you're done!

Thank you....thank you.....I must be really tired 'cause I didn't see the control panel until now. Thank you all for trying to help. Maybe I don't belong in your forum, maybe I should try a chat room instead. I'm sorry if I annoyed anyone.

Hopefully you will sleep well.

Be patient. We know how hard it is. We have all been there. It was just 7 months ago for me and I finally am feeling great again.

Talk to you tomorrow. Of course you belong here.

Thanks so much for the encouragement and help!ybe I Maybe I should explain something. (I'll try not to be too wordy).

I have no med insurance and I am self pay. My family doc was the one who suspected my sleep apnea. Knowing my finances were extremely limited, he sent me home with a device that I had to wear overnight. This device was very basic....just a nasal canula attached to a box which I guess was reading my apneas, hypopneas, etc. Then he contacted the med equip co. that had provided this at home device to the doc, and they had me set up to have a visit from a respiratory specialist to bring me a c-pap. She gave me basic instructions on how to use the machine. At that time, she set me up with at Autoset II and they had me download my info onto a data card which I had to send to them (after about 6 weeks). After reading my card, they sent a different rep out to exchange my machine. Now I only have a ResMed S-8 compact with Resmed heated humidifier H4i. Although I had received a little help from the Autoset II, this latest one doesn't seem to be working the same. (I am making monthly payments....guess my arrangement only included getting the Autoset II just long enough for them to read the data card).

My family doc was just trying to help me as he knew I couldn't afford to self pay for the sleep study. BTW, The med equip co did send me report with a bunch of the info many of you asked me about. It's like learning a new language. Actually, that would probably be easier. I had no idea this c-pap therapy was going to be such a journey.

I'm sorry I seem so scatterbrained. Thank you all for your comments and help. I hope I can stick with the therapy.
