Extension cord for travel . . .
Extension cord for travel . . .
It was pointed out to me that I would need a extension cord rated for 220V on my upcoming trip to Egypt. Every cord I have looked at says 115V, unless it is of the size to run the refrigerator with! Do I run the chance of burning down a 5 star hotel if I use one marked 115V with my AutoSet II?

Ummm.....let me think about this....uh, YEAH that would be a fire hazard....(asked hubby who knows about this stuff, he's pretty emphatic that you do NOT want to do that)...
now, I should imagine you could buy an extension cord upon arrival in Egypt that would be rated for their voltage, or if it is a 5 star hotel, would they have one?

You may want to verify this before spending your hard-earned money on an extension cord.
If I understand correctly and according to ResMed, all you really need is a plug adaptor. Here's what ResMed writes on their website under International Travel:
International Travel
ResMed PAP devices run on virtually any power supply in the world without the need for a power transformer. However, you will need a plug adapter appropriate for the country you are visiting. You can purchase plug adapters at electronics and travel stores.
I am also planning a trip to Germany this fall and inquired. Good Luck!

"Max" has it right!
Your standard extension cord will handle the load just fine. But you'll need an adapter plug to match the Egyptian wall socket. (Note, this is NOT a 220-to-110 transformer! Your CPAP will run on either voltage.)
In fact, your machine will actually draw half the current at 220 that it does at 110. And current is what dictates wire size.
Have fun in Egypt, and sleep blissfully unafraid that you'll burn down Cairo...
