I'm wondering this and will ask this question, half-joking but also half-serious. If my OSA is due to a nasal obstruction, then why not just pin a clothespin to my nose and breathe through my mouth? (rather than putting up with the CPAP). Isn't my problem due to nose breathing anyway? So now I'm taping my mouth shut and trying to use the CPAP to force air through my nose. Seems bassakwards to me.

If I had known I would have lived this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

My ENT says so.

If it's only nasal obstruction then it seems bassakward to me too - did the ENT suggest CPAP?

Breathing through your mouth is not good, because the nose warms filters and moisturises the air that passes through it, in a way the mouth can't.

What type of nasal obstruction is it? I would have thought that if it were a physical obstruction then CPAP was not the answer, but surgery! Maybe your ENT is just trying to see if you can get around the problem without having to resort to surgery?

And in answer to your question - I really don't know. I am surprised to hear it is only a nasal obstruction, but breathing through your mouth can be really uncomfortable. Could it be OSA with a nasal obstruction as opposed to OSA because of a nasal obstruction?

Maybe he meant a post-nasal obstruction. (Big difference!)
