Hush

Post by ragbabybsk » Fri Jul 29, 2005 8:24 am

I've been having trouble with my husband not being able to sleep because of the noise from the air vents in my mask. My dr. suggested I switch to an Acclaim but the home care company I use doesn't carry it anymore and recommended a Hush, which is a new mask by Tiara Medical Systems and supposedly has no noise whatsoever. Has anyone heard of this? I will be going next week to check it out (that is, if my insurance will pay for it)

Tiara is not a major manufacturer and makes pretty poor masks. Even if it is quiet, the odds that it fits comfortably and does not leak are low.

The Fisher Paykel Flexifit 407 is a much better idea if you are looking for quietness AND comfort.

I'm very lucky in that my DME will let me try any mask I want (at no charge to me or my insurance) so I've been going through tons of them. I did try out the SNAPP from Tiara and it was really really flimsy compaired to all of the other masks I tried. I also couldn't get it to seal well while I was awake. I decided not to even try it while I was sleeping. My favorite, so far, is the Activa because it seals so well for me. I don't know about the noise factor....it doesn't keep me or my husband awake so I guess it's pretty quiet.

Thanks,
I've heard good things about the Flexifit 407. Don't know much about the Activa. It's such a pain trying to get this to work properly. I didn't have any trouble with the mask I have (aside from inconvenience and feeling like Darth Vader) but I do want to be able to sleep with my husband!!

Would your husband consider wearing earplugs? I wear them myself, they help a lot. You can get them at the supermarket or drugstore.

Mask choices

Post by tomjax » Fri Jul 29, 2005 6:25 pm

You have two choices.
!- change masks.
2- Change husbands.

If changing masks can save your marriage, then I would think that would be the more practictical and less traumatic for all concerned.

My Breeze is totally quiet, regardless of a person who says it is not. Mine is.

I would try a new mask. It may just be that a new husband will have the same problem and you have to start all over.

Maybe I should be a marriage counselor.

mask noise

Post by SnoreNoMore2005 » Fri Jul 29, 2005 6:45 pm

Make sure the noise your husband hears is not a small leak coming from the mask and you just think it's the air vents. My Mirage FF mask is totally quiet except when I have a small leak somewhere. Sometimes I'm not even aware of the leak except I can recognize the sound which tells me to reseat the mask. the higher the pressure, the greater the probability of leaks.

Maybe try running a fan for "white noise". That's what I do and it works great.

Denise,
Yes, it is a pain but we all go through it so just hang in there. What mask are you wearing that your husband says is too loud?
