Colds

Post by NeurosurgeryNP » Wed Jul 27, 2005 7:13 pm

Hello everyone.

I am interested in finding out everyone's experience with colds after starting CPAP. I have been on CPAP for 4 months now and I have yet to be sick once. I used to get bronchitis all of the time. It's amazing how you immunity gets built up from good sleep!

What are other's ecperiences?

I haven't had a cold since going on CPAP (it is winter here). I have had the start of cold/flu symptoms but they seem to pass before turning into anything.
(I have never got to the headache stage). My wife has had the snuffles - I usually follow within a day or so - but not this time.

Based on anecdotal evidence (mine & other comments posted here in the past) I am thinking that maybe CPAP is an effective controller of mmild/moderate colds/flu.

But, I would temper this with the realisation that a mouth leak in winter may generate symptoms that resemble the onset of a cold (sore throat), nasal congestion etc:).

Cheers

DSM

I became a user in December and have not had a cold since (oh, that's xPAP use by the way, not substance use )
This is the first winter I can remember without getting a cold, despite the best efforts of wife/daughters/work colleagues/the general public to pass one on to me!

Neurosurgery, the link above is a thread that went on exactly about what you're talking about. Thought you might like to read it.

By the way, what part of Long Island are you in? Suffolk County here...

I started on my CPAP on 05/14 and came down with "something" (like a sinus cold and cough) and had to go off the machine on 05/31 for about 10 days. I was very glad to get back on the CPAP, but it was almost like starting all over again as all my "numbers" had jumped way up again.
