Cost of Sleep Study

Post by SeaPappy » Thu Jan 29, 2009 8:22 pm

I have a feeling that my provider is trying to put one over on me with the cost of my sleep study. I would like to know what some of ya'll's cost and how much insurance paid (ballpark figures) so I have some kind of idea and ammunition when I ream the hospital administrator.

James...just trying to save a penny...or in this case$$$$$
When I woke up this morning my girlfriend asked me, 'Did you sleep good?' I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.'

I have HMO and the sleep study itself didn't cost me anything. I guess my doctor considers it a test. ... not much different than a blood sample or anything.

1st sleep study $2400 I didn't have to pay anything.
2nd sleep study $2600 I didn't have to pay anything.
I'm not sure what the insurance payed the lab.

I have had one doctor visit so far with a $20 copay Don't know what insurance payed.

All equipment I was prescribed is 80% insurance 20% me (of course the DME jacks up the price 3 or 4 times).

For mine, they billed $3066.89, and insurance allowed $1840.13. That didn't include the $400 for some doctor I've never met ($276.75 allowed on that).

My sleep study was $3500 fortunately My deductable of $4000 had been met for the year and my insurance picked up the full bill . Now remenber I had paid $4000 in deductable before this .I will admit my experance during the study was pretty good in comparison to others I've read about on this site. I do wonder why they didn't try some oxygen when my oxygen levals dropped to 50%. My Insurance paid for humidifier, mast and my DME nickeled and dimed for each item such as mask head gear, hose carry case, then the rental of a very good machine. I did purchase same type of machine off cpap.com and saved more than my insurance would do for me as the rental ran from one year to another and there you go another big deductable before they pay a penny. All in all I feel very comfortable with the knowledge My machine is MINE. Good luck with your sleep study I knew I had a apnea aporoblem but had NO idea how severe it was . I feel I gained YEARS to my life and the quality is great.

I discussed this with the DME. Around this part of the country, $3200 - 3600 is pretty standard. Mine (last August, was over $3400)
