HELP! HELP! HELP!

Hi,

I've been using a CPAP since the early 90s and it finally quit on me without notice. I'm unemployed and uninsured so I can't afford to get it fixed. A couple from the church was kind enough to give me a machine they had that nobody used. It's a Respironics BiPAP S/T and I have no idea how to adjust the air pressure. I don't remember what my machine was set at and the hospital that did my sleep study has stopped doing them and doesn't have records of mine. The doctor that did mine has moved on and I can't seem to find him. I can't afford another sleep study at this time. I've tried using Google to find how to adjust air pressure but can't find anything. Is anyone familiar with this machine that could give me some tips on adjusting the air pressure? I've been using a CPAP so long that I know I could adjust it myself if I knew how to adjust this particular machine. I certainly would appreciate any help I could get.

Model - BiPAP S/T North America
Model # -1012885

What machine did you have before? (that broke)

Does the one they gave you look like this?

My original machine was a lot different from the newer machines. It was much heavier, also.

That is exactly what my new machine looks like. Do you know how to adjust the air pressure on that machine?

What I was wondering was whether you (previously) had a Bi-Level (Bi-PAP) machine or a plain CPAP (single-pressure) machine.

There's a WHOLE lot of difference in them.....and setting them up.

Here's a link to a discussion about it and some other links to some pictures (and the buttons to press to get into the setup):

Den (Wulfman),

I posted the original messages as "Say Hey Kid" but now I am Yessongs. The info you gave me helped me find the answer to all my questions and I Thank You very much. I now can set the pressure on this machine and I can use it as a CPAP. You and this site has saved me a lot of money and I certainly appreciate it. Thank you again.

Glad to hear that helped. Yes, Bi-PAPs can be used in straight CPAP mode, too. Also glad to see you registered on the forum. Welcome to the group. Please feel free to hang around and partake in the discussions.

Best wishes.

Hey yessongs - you said you'd forgotten what pressure your old machine was set at - did you remember? If not, how did you determine what to set it at?
Machine: M-Series Auto
Mask: Headrest
No humidifier
On the hose since 2005.
