accurate information?????

Post by Tcamillemars » Fri Jan 02, 2009 4:39 pm

I just got a copy of my sleep study, and they determined that my setting should be 10 after a grand total of 14 minutes of non-REM sleep. How could this possibly be accurate? I still snore so I mentioned it to the RT and she said to tell the MD. The MD said he didn't know and to ask the RT. I have an appt with a pulmonologist next week. Hopefully I can get this figured out. Unfortunately my cpap doesn't have a card so I can't get any other feedback, other than my daughter telling me I still snore. I'm so frustrated with our idiotic and incompetent medical/insurance system.

IMHO 14 minutes of non REM would not qualify as a successful titration. I had at least 2 or 3 hours and mine was still reported as suboptimal because I was not recorded in REM while supine. Seems to me yours would be a prime case for an autopap for home titration to supplement the lab study and a data capable machine ongoiong for followup. Hopefully that wasn't a sleep doctor deferring to the RT after the RT deferred to the doctor. If your only issue is OSA my guess is the pulmonologist will sort things out pretty quickly.
Glad you're going to have a "second opinion" since the first didn't help.

Ditto.

In my experience, all labs have trouble setting the optimum pressure in one night. You are in a strange environment very unlike your home sleeping environment. I was successful to find the optimal pressure only be having a data capable machine, card reader and software to do my own titration over several weeks at home.
