high frequency noise with Remstar

Post by Warwick » Tue Dec 23, 2008 9:56 am

Does anyone have any information about a high pitched, intermittent "frequency" noise with the Remstar Series M with C-Flex after several hours of usage? I am new to the machine, and after 4 or 5 hours asleep, I am awakened to this noise (duration approx 10 seconds at a time) and it is dificult to return to sleep.

I came back looking for an answer to the same question.

I'm getting what I would call a "high pitched harmonic" sound. Last night it was so bad that I put the machine on the floor under the bed.

In the past it's happened before but only for a moment or two and then went away.

Any ideas?

Contact the DME supplier you got them from and describe the problem to them.
The machines SHOULD be very quiet (relatively).
And, the DMEs should be able to give you something that IS quiet.

I did check with my DME and they gave me a second Remstar machine that did the same high pitched frequency noise thing after a few hours. My spouse also heard this noise. So they finally gave me a new Resmed Tango that is very quiet though bulky. My DME had never heard of this problem. The whole purpose is to get uninterupted sleep so keep pushing until you find one that won't give you a problem.

An update.

My med supply place said that my machine has begun it's demise. From my research, it sounds like it might be worn out bearings or something.

He is applying for a replacement from the insurance company. It has been 6 years in March and currently I have over 16,400 hours on it. He said the expected life is 5-7 years.

Outside of this "ringing" from time to time, it has been a great machine. Should have a new one in a day or so.
