OK so I got a new Resmed VPAPIII ST-A (traded in my old rented one cause the insurance finally bought me one outright) all was well I went picked it up and was very excited to come home and gets some MUCH needed Sleep (I am a firefighter/EMT and I was up for 37 hours yesterday and the day before cause I was at work) well plugged in my machine put my mask on and began to dose off into the wonderful world of sleep when.......BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!!! my Resp. Therapist (I use that term loosely in her case) forgot to turn off the non-vented mask alarm and so every 3 mins. (after muting it) the alarm goes off and I again get no sleep!!!!! why have the machine if its going to wake me up every three mins (being sarcastic) I almost got better sleep with my apnea!! So to save myself a 40 mile drive and since I go back to work for 24 hours tomorrow and REALLY REALLY need to get a GOOD nights sleep can anyone help me I need the Clinicians book to put it into setup mode so I can disable the alarm Thanks!!

for what it's worth, you can probably access the clinician menu by holding the right menu button and the down button for 3 seconds from the main screen - but that said, i hope you know what you're doing - is it the right mask for the machine? is the machine set for that mask? i'm a newbie - that non-vented mask thing sounds scary - if i have a power failure with a swift lt it has little air vents, plus i can always open my big yap - particularly if there's no air coming in - with a non vented mask (which i've never tried) i'd be concerned about asphyxiation - then again, is there a possiblity that there is a mask issue?

Thanks for the advice I got it working thanks to yours and another little birdy's tip the mask was the same one I had used before with the old machine just the setting that she forgot to change. my physiology may be slightly off with this but I would think that if a power failure were to occur with a non-vented mask like you were saying that provided your brain was not injured or anything (i mean that clinically not rudely or jokingly) as your SpO2 level fell (measurement for amount of O2 bound to hemoglobin in your blood) your body would wake itself up (much like a sleep apnea episode) prior to reaching fatal levels for a sustained amount of time. Also if you were to stop breathing for long enough the amount of Co2 in your blood would rise (throwing off your bodys PH and making you acidotic) which again provided there is no long term injury or problem with your brain should cause your body to react and wake you up. All that being said like in a "normal" sleep apnea episode there is nothing in-fact to keep you from going right back to sleep without consiousness that you ever were awoken, and I suppose that could cause a problem and eventually cause you to be rendered unconsious and eventually cause death. I think that is mostly correct info if I remember acid-base and advanced respiratory care from paramedic school correctly, one of the Res. Tech could go further in dept. on that or correct me if i`m wrong as a disclaimer I will say this that Paramedic respiratory training is basically to save you right now and does not go into much more detail than what I explained so please take this with a grain of salt.
P.S. it is also crammed into our heads in about 6 hours of lecture along with about 100 other topics and 50 or so medications to memorize so if I didn't remember it perfectly; again I am very sorry LOL!!

Ok. So one of you needs to make a group (or if one of you already has a group that's fine too). Then the other person needs to join that group. Whoever is already the moderator needs to go to the group page and press "moderate".
