I just tried out this mask last night, as I want to have a FF mask for times when I have a cold and have to do mouth breathing or both. I am totally committed to my little Swift LT with mouth taping, but I actually was pretty comfortable in the UM, so think I will keep it on hand.
Question: When you all say "don't tighten the mask too much," what exactly does that mean? (Sorry but there are lots of degrees of "tight.") When I fitted the thing, fraction by fraction, and got it to just the point on all 4 straps that the tiny leaks were all stopped even when I moved from side to side....it was really snug. Not so tight that the hard plastic was against my face through the pillow, but enough that it was almost not possible to lift the mask up off my face to re-adjust the pillow contact with all of the straps fastened. This morning I had a pretty serious red, full-triangular indent on my face that lasted about 3 hours. Is this typical? Not something I can go to work with.
Second question--when I woke up around 4-5am, the silicone pillow was kind of abrasive feeling on my cheeks--no rash or anything, but it felt almost that way. Should I be doing anything special about any of this?

Re: Ultra Mirage FF Mask Questions
It sounds to me that you got it a little too tight. I have to wear mine tight to stop leaks at high pressure but I can lift it against the straps if I have to adjust it or slip my little finger in to scratch my nose.

And thus the dilemma that to avoid creating serious caverns in my face, it will probably leak and need the silicone treatment. Dern.
The other thing that concerned me when I tried this mask, was how I hardly knew I was breathing air under pressure....So different from my nasal pillows! Felt like I wasn't getting effective pressure, actually, but I guess that's an illusion?

The feeling that there is no pressure happens to me also I think it's kinda neat. I have had my bipap machine set at 18" inhale and 10" exhale and woken up and even checked the readings on the machine to be sure it was working. It felt like there was no pressure at all. I think that with a full face mask, since the pressure is equal on both nose and mouth it ends up feeling like there is no pressure.

It is pretty neat! Now if I can only figure out how to keep that good seal I had the other night, without looking so scary at work all morning.deerhound wrote:The feeling that there is no pressure happens to me also I think it's kinda neat. Dale

This happens to me as well. I'm thinking that maybe it's not the best fit, but I'm not sure!plr66 wrote:Question: When you all say "don't tighten the mask too much," what exactly does that mean? Not your stereotypical xpap user! 5 feet tall, healthy weight, female, and 23. I've had OSA undiagnosed at least since high school.
In addition to OSA, I also order up random food I don't like while I'm asleep.
