Newbie Needs Help, ResMed Error Msg

Can anyone tell me what this message means on a ResMed V-Pap machine? All the techs seem to run and hide when I try to show it to them. I think it means there is real trouble with my machine but they will not talk about it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Larry, all I see is a black box w/your message at the URL you gave. I have the Resmed VPAP Auto. What does the message say? Have you looked for that message in the Users' Manual? I also have the Clinicians' Manual in pdf. Lets see if we can help you out. If we can't there is always Resmed. Have you registered at myresmed.com? There's a contact link: phone and e-mail there. But meanwhile tell us what the message says and maybe we will know the answer.

Larry, relax, there's nothing wrong with your machine.

You are looking at Treatment screen 2

S is the Trigger indicator

C is the Cycle indicator.

TiMx is set IPAP MAX

Ti is measured inspiration time

1:2.5 is the Measured I:E Ratio

I was also quite up tight when I first got my machine and started treatment. Every day it will get a little better as you learn more.

You are climbing Mt. Apnea and right now you are at the bottom in the ground fog. Each day take a step up and one day you will burst through the clouds and everything will be clear.

TiControl™ – Inspiratory Time Control
(S mode, VAuto mode) The TiControl feature is unique to ResMed bilevel devices. It allows the clinician to set minimum and maximum limits on the time the device spends in IPAP. The minimum and Maximum time limits are set at either side of the patient’s ideal spontaneous inspiratory time, Providing a ’window of opportunity’ for the patient to spontaneously cycle to EPAP. The minimum time limit is set via the Ti Min parameter and the maximum time limit is set via the Ti Max parameter.

Setting Ti Max
The majority of patients on bilevel therapy experience mouth leaks, especially during sleep. During mouth leak there may be poor synchronization between patient and machine breaths, which reduces both the comfort and effectiveness of therapy.
The VPAP Auto allows clinicians to specify a maximum IPAP time (ie the time the device spends delivering the inspiratory pressure during a spontaneous breath). Thus, if a patient develops mouth leak, the VPAP Auto automatically cycles to EPAP after reaching the maximum time set by the clinician.
In the following graph, Panel A demonstrates poor synchrony between the diaphragm EMG (EMGdi—which is indicative of inspiratory effort) and Inspiration, resulting in poor chest wall movement and ineffective therapy.
Panel B demonstrates improved synchrony when Ti Max is set to profile the patient’s intrinsic inspiratory time, as demonstrated by EMGdi, chest wall movement, and pressure profile synchronization.

Setting Ti Min
The Ti Min parameter allows the clinician to set a minimum time the patient spends in IPAP. It allows adjustment of the minimum inspiratory time parameter ranging from 0.1secs to Ti Max. Ti Min is usually set to its default setting of 0.1 second.

Surprise, surprise, Larry. Your local DME supplier's RTs are too dang lazy or dense to get off their duffs, dust off the Clinician's Manual that they got when your VPAP Auto arrived in their office and actually READ it. They obviously used the Quick Set Up Guide that also came w/it to set your scripted pressures and used the Default settings for all else - for which you can't blame them. They can only set those pressures that are scripted. Obviously, your sleep doctor, like most sleep doctors, hasn't the slightest idea of what your VPAP Auto is capable of and most likely could care less. At least the RPSGT would have some understanding of what the terms mean and their effect on bi-level therapy. But then, "we" aren't allowed to consult w/them, the ones who understand xPAP therapy.

I sure would like a copy of the clinician's manual. my machine is all screwed up. my insurance is up, and they want me to have another test, and I can't afford it. they couldn't even determine the settings from the first test. the doctor's assistant has been witchy with me, because I won't go back to the place they do business with (Ah, kickback?) wataptek131, first and foremost, it is NEVER a good idea to post your e-mail addy so publicly. I suggest that you edit your previous post and delete your e-mail addy. Whenever you want to share your e-mail addy do so via Private Messaging (PM).

Not sure there is a clinician's guide, since the only control is one knob for increasing or decreasing heat. And even clinicians should be able to figure that one out! But here is a link to the user's manual:
