NEWBIE WHO NEEDS HELP

Post by Budnick1 » Wed Oct 29, 2008 10:57 am

Hello All.

I am new to all of this and have only had my machine for a week today.

So far I have not been able to get one nights sleep using the machine. One night I lay there for three hours before taking the mask off and shutting down the machine and finally falling asleeep.

I have the ResMed S8 with all the bells and whistles. The face mask is the basic which covers the nose. I do find it irrates my mustache.

When I use the machine I sound like Darth Vader, and I have heavy pressure in my nasal passages. I can breath but it is heavy, and I have adjusted the humidity which has helped a bit.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Bud

Hey fellow newbie,

Sorry you are having adjustment issues, but when you make this work you will feel so much better. Are you on straight CPAP or BiPap? I couldn't tolerate straight CPAP but I am thriving on BiPap. Work with your respiratory therapist (If you have one). You will get good advice here too. List your info so everyone can help.

I found that a sonata about 30 minutes before bed has helped as well.

Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place to learn all about your condition and get lots of help with any problems you may be having.

Can you give us more information? More specifically, what mask are you wearing? What mask did you wear during your titration? What pressure are you set for? Do you have a copy of your prescription an/or sleep studies?

Yup, we've all been there. It's a struggle. For me, it took six weeks and trying 8 different masks before I could be compliant 100%, all night, every night. It's a very individual thing.

You might just be learning, and you might need to try a different mask.

Good luck and keep posting!

Welcome to the Forum!

You mentioned a moustache-- you can find some previous posts discussing masks & moustaches if you do a search in the forum for the word moustache in the search box at the top left.

Also as Outtasynch said, it would really help to you what setup you're using, what your pressure is, and any additional info you can provide. It will be easier for us to give you tips. While you're at it, why not register so you can put all the info in your profile and then you don't have to repeat it every time: https://www.cpaptalk.com/ucp.php?mode=register
