I'm back in business. Last posted that I was waiting for APAP machine recommended by my doc because I was having problems with aerophagia. As, I've indicated previous, I'm fairly new to CPAP and truly did not realize that many of those who post suggestions and info had such a vast knowledge of the whole CPAP experience. My setting is now is 5-15 . This is what my doc ordered as he is going to re evaluate my settings after a month( smart card). As I read the posts, I'm seeing most users controlling their own settings....I wouldn't have a clue( although, I am getting a better understanding of all the values and settings, slowly. Should I be asking the doc to give me a copy of what the smart card tells him....I mean would I understand it? I feel after reading all these posts, I should be more knowledgeable and more in control.
At any rate, my first night I didn't really look at the setting for the humidifier and it was high for me, so had a bit of a face wash 3 hours into it but changed that and did some things I have read here .....lower machine and rearranged hose level. Had good results last night..slept well for 7hours.
Just want to thank everyone for all the good info and help...it really does help knowing so many people have the same experiences and problems.

Re: Got APAP
Good Morning,
It sounds like you are off to a good start for your first night. Yes, you will want copies of your nightly reports. I would consider purchasing the software and card reader so you don't have to rely on the Dr. for every night. Also get copies of your cpap prescription for your records, and copies of all your sleep studies. I highly suggest you become involved in your therapy to expedite your success like it has for me. List your titrated pressure in your profile to inform those that can offer you advice. If your ramp is set at 5 that may be a little low, however I'll let the more qualified address that.
Good luck and welcome aboard,
Georgio

Re: Got APAP
The consensus seems to be that those of us on APAP get better therapy with the machine set to a fairly narrow range rather than leaving it wide open. The theory is that the lower setting will take care of most events while the machine does not need to move the pressure too much to take care of other events not attended to by the lower pressure.
That has certainly been my experience as I have been slowly getting my range dialed in. My numbers are looking really good right now with a range of 10-15. I may drop the upper number to 14 and leave it at that. Will need to gather a few more nights data to see how things work out.
