how does the Comfortgel mask vent?

Post by elader » Sat Oct 11, 2008 7:03 am

Hi All, exactly where/how does your exhalation go on this mask/cpap machine. There seems to be some small ports on the elbow that vents a small amount of air. It does so whether I am inhaling or exhaling. It certainly seems too small for my exhale to go that route. Is most of it going back into the hose?

Nothing wrong here, just curious.

It all exhausts through those slits in the elbow. I haven't checked the numbers, but I think that the Comfort Gel has a relatively low leak rate.

That's the way it works, only two ways it can go wrong. By blocking the elbow vent. (intentionally or smushing into the pillow) or using a pressure that is too low, most people need to be above 7 cm to be comfortable, many need more. Jim

The leak rate is about avg, 33 lpm @ 15cm water

Jim, would that be the same leak rate for the ComfortGel FF?

Don't know, the data will come with the mask. the ComfortGel nasal and the ComfortFull are close in LPM. But the ComfortFull is completely different in vent design. Jim
