A few questions for all you experts out there

Post by 4Katie » Tue Jun 28, 2005 8:16 pm

I've been going through all my manuals and literature, and there are a few things I just can't understand. I'm hoping someone can help...

I have a ResMed S7 Lightweight (set at 6) with HumidAire2i heated humidifier. Do I have to turn the humidifier on, or is it on automatically when I turn the CPAP on? If I choose to use the CPAP without humidification do I have to physically disconnect the humidifer from the CPAP?

Same question for the humidifier heater - is it always on? Can I use the humidifier without heat if I choose?

What is the 'cm water' reference when talking about CPAP pressure? And what is the 'flow rate'?

Thanks, AGAIN, for answering my questions.

BTW - Tonight's the night - new Breeze pillows and shapable pillow. Wish me luck!

cm (centimeteres) water = air pressure measurement

10 cm H20 is the pressure required to lift a define column of water to a level of ten cm. They could also use PSI (pounds per square inch), mmHg (millimeters of mercury), inches of mercury, etc.

Katie,

Yes when you turn on the CPAP the heater is automatically turn on only if the the big knob controlling the heater level is turn on. You can turn off the heater by turning the big knob counter clock-wise and you will feel a click telling you the heater is fully turn orff and you can run the humidifer without heat. If you want to run without humidification you could empty the humidifier or just let it run dry and turn the heater off. That is the easier way to do it.

10 cm H2O is not much pressure. It equates to 0.289 inches of mercury (like the weatherman uses) or 0.009 atmospheres (so nine thousandths the normal air pressure on the surface of the earth)
