While we can't take this idea seriously without research and testing lets not forget that the cause of apnea in some cases is weak muscles. Its stands to reason that exercises could improve that some.

Not saying that this works but its not beyond the scope of possibility that exercise could help in my mind.

Of course selling a cure for $20 without any proof is just plain wrong
Remember SleepGuy had a rough time when he first hooked up with us. But he had a good attitude and wasn't trying to rip anyone off. He adjusted his offering and seems to have done well.

The internet (and the rest of life) can be tough, but left to work freely and openly much more good than bad results.

Actually Dan, I was laughing at YOUR silly *ss.

Careful, I'm single and looking. Making me laugh is very dangerous. I could come stalk you in Aussie land. I do have friends there who would help me. (Blarg and McKooi whistle and look the other way and pretend they don't know me....)

Dang I'm very happily sorted with a lovely woman though! Before my girl came along I would have sent you my address before you finished typing, you sound like a lotta fun.

Come to Australia one day, if you know which trees to look in you can find heaps of decent fellas just like me. I have some nets, cages and ropes you can borrow but you'll need to bring your own tools if you like them tidy

In other words, you don't even claim to have evidence that these exercises cured your own OSA.

You really shouldn't be surprised at the kinds of responses you got here. After all, your own doctor didn't take you seriously, and you ask us to give you $20 without any evidence. What did you expect, that we'd knock each other over in a race to pay you $20 to email us some PDF files?

More importantly, you shouldn't put down this group, many of whom have given invaluable help to total strangers with no expectation of anything in return. (Unlike you!)

Oh good! I really don't like flying that much!

Tidy not required. I myself don't do tidy very well....

Met a cute Aussie once while I was vacationing in New Orleans.... Ah, those were the days.. Dancing at Tipitinas, creeping about the Royal Sonesta looking for an open conference room to canoodle in so I wouldn't distrub my roommate...

I went on a ski trip to Canada years ago with my brother. When we got to the mountain we had a repair guy come through the room and we spoke in passing to a few people working the lifts and the hotel, skiing etc. I kept saying to Russ - this Canadian accent is pretty hard to tell apart from Aussie. Turned out that everyone we had met for the first couple of days was an Aussie.

Apparently we are the current tribbles of the human race (we took over from the Japanese recently apparently)

Some places were so badly infested with us that they had an Australia day routine that they put in place.

In fact, it was embarrassing. They closed all the bars except one or two and everyone studiously tried to ignore the naked Aussies skiing down the mountain.

Was your Aussie wearing clothes when you found him Babs?

Yeah, but I remedied that situation nearly immediately.

We prevent the tribble situation using the well tested Klingon method btw.

Risk of Premature Death 3 Times Higher in People With Undiagnosed Sleep Apnea
By Jennifer Warner

WebMD Health NewsReviewed by Louise Chang, MD Aug. 1, 2008 --

Suffering from sleep apnea may do more than just spoil a good night's sleep. A new study shows that people with severe sleep apnea may be up to three times more likely to die prematurely, and that risk increases if the sleep disorder is left untreated.

Sleep apnea is a common sleeping disorder that causes frequent pauses in breathing during sleep and is often accompanied by snoring. About 6% of adults in the U.S. suffer from moderate to severe forms of the condition, and 17% have less severe forms.

In the study, researchers followed more than 1,500 adults for 18 years who had been screened for sleep apnea at the start of the study. The results showed that about 19% of those with severe sleep apnea died during the follow-up period compared with only 4% of those without sleep apnea.

Researchers found the risk of premature death increased as the severity of sleep apnea increased, but findings suggested protection from risk of death with proper treatment of sleep apnea, such as the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to keep airways open during sleep and prevent pauses in breathing.

When those who used CPAP regularly to treat their sleep apnea were excluded from the analysis, the risk of death was 3.8 times greater for those with for untreated sleep apnea.

"I was surprised by how much the risks increased when we excluded people who reported treatment with CPAP," researcher Terry Young, PhD, professor of epidemiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, says in a news release. "Our findings suggest -- but cannot prove -- that people diagnosed with sleep apnea should be treated, and if CPAP is the prescribed treatment, regular use may prevent premature death."

Sleep Apnea Death Risk
In the study, published in Sleep, researchers followed a random sample of 1,522 men and women between the ages of 30 and 60 who participated in the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study.

The participants spent one night at a sleep laboratory under observation and were screened for sleep apnea. Those diagnosed with sleep apnea were divided into groups according to the severity of their condition, as defined by the average number of breathing pauses and sleep disruptions during sleep.

During 18 years of follow-up, 80 people died. The overall risk of death during the study period was 3.2 times higher among those with severe sleep apnea compared with those without sleep apnea at baseline, after adjusting for other risk factors such as age, sex, and body mass index.

The link between sleep apnea and heart-related death was especially strong. About 42% of the deaths in people with severe sleep apnea were due to heart disease, and the risk of heart-related death was more than five times higher among those with untreated severe sleep apnea compared with those without sleep apnea.

Yeah we have to be friendly I guess because of the way we are shaped.

Here's a picture of me in case you are curious about why we ski naked. I'm not wearing any clothes but it's safe for all to view - shield the bottom 3/4 of the screen if kids are around.

Dang, Oz must be farther away than I thought! Image

Sheesh, can one even phone from there? Have we forgotten that the tribbles were from a place far, far away? That does explain an AWFUL LOT about that continental island.

Jim, you are so right about the grain! Image Stow it carefully; we are going to need that for producing fuel if gasoline gets up to $5.00 a gallon--OR MORE!

I believe the key to controlling the tribble population is to own just one. That, and do not organize any play dates for the sweet little things.

Thanks for that info and web site. I'd like to find more about how the statistics were done. 80 out of 1522, who were chosen between 30 and 60 and studied for 18 years doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary. If most of those were, say around 55, then that means that they died by age 73. I also wonder if OSA was a contributor toward heart disease, or if heart disease just exacerbated the condition. Also, how was smoking, weight and diabetes factored in? Still, it was useful and sobering news. Incidentally, I'm going Mon. night for my 3rd sleep study, and I will also get a new machine. The doc says my apnea has worsened. egad, what's next?
