What CPAP Really Stands For

Post by Sleepless on LI » Wed Jun 15, 2005 5:17 am

Well, this morning, after starting my CPAP therapy on June 7th, I am happy to report...no, make that thrilled, elated and overjoyed to report that I finally woke up feeling rested, relaxed and ready for action!!! I know it had something to do with switching my mask two days ago to the Mirage Activa, from the Oracle, and it seems to be working much better for me. No, I didn't sleep through the night, waking a few times when I would turn over subconsciously to make sure it wasn't leaking and to adjust it, whether or not it needed it. But I would imagine that that the amount of time I did sleep was so beneficial and of such great quality that for the first time in years, I awakend this morning feeling like I can't remember when in years. To say I am ecstatic is an understatement.
So all you CPAP-ers who are ready to give up or who are starting out and are not feeling it yet, PLEASE do not give up. Hang in there and wait for that morning that I just had. It is worth every bad night we have just to have a morning like this. I entitled this thread "What CPAP Really Stands For." I believe it stands for "Continuous Positive Attitude Pay-off." Read my past threads. I promised no matter how long it took, I would keep my gloves on and beat this thing. It paid off this morning.

Thank you! Hope you are having mornings like this, too. It's times like this when all the negatives turn into positives and you realize that good things really can come out of this mess we found ourselves in. I will hold onto this morning if/when I wake up tomorrow or on mornings in the future when I do not feel the same and know it can truly happen if we stick with it. It was wonderful hearing your words and knowing they were being directed at me: "Welcome to the world of the RESTED!"

Absolutely fantastci! I wish you many more!

I wish DMEs would just go right to the Activa in the beginning. It may not be the mask for all but it is for most and I bet compliance would be much greater.

Keep having nights of wonderful sleep Sleepless in LI!

Boy, if you were here, I'd give you such a hug!!! Thanks to you, I asked for the Activa. I have to say, once again, you were right. You should think about changing professions and going into counseling. I am still waking during the night, but I think it's just a process of getting used to making sure it isn't leaking and adjusting it on my face, etc. It was only the second night wearing it. Once I feel confident that all is well, and that stops, I can only imagine how I'll feel. But what a shock to feel how I did this morning even after the times I subconsciously did that through the night those times.
Thanks again, R&R, for all your sage advice and wisdom. You are a true asset to these message boards. I wish I could return the favor.

Well, consider the hug recieved. I am so glad it worked out for you. I recieved help from the boards when I started and was so grateful, passing that along and helping another is a great feeling too. In just a few month s when you are an experienced cpaper, you will be giving advise yourself and will help someone else and fee the great kudos when they say your advise helped.

Keep up the good feelings and keep letting us know how you are doing.

That's great news, Lori!
Hope you have many more good mornings like that!

I like your motto for: "What CPAP Really Stands For. I believe it stands for 'Continuous Positive Attitude Pay-off'."

Rock and Roll certainly does give good advice. I always enjoy reading his posts. I second his feeling that the Activa should be standard issue as the first mask given to most new users.

R&R, I will be more than happy to be able to pass on any help and information I can to others coming on to the boards if and when I have that information to offer. I hear what you're saying and I guess that is all we can do to pay our debt back to others like yourself who give so much help to the newcomers like myself. Just know how much your words have mattered, and I'm sure not only to me. Not to say I won't be posting any more threads asking for advice in the future. I certainly haven't learned it all. It was just nice being able to post the thread I did this morning.
I will keep you posted. Thanks again.

Thanks to you, too, Rested Gal. You are another one who always takes the time to write long and informative replies to help others. Maybe you and R&R should start your own web site about OSA? You both have enough knowledge and insight on the subject, not to mention compassion and desire to be of help. I guess the best thing that ever happened to me when I found out I had OSA was finding this site and all the wonderful support of the people on it. Thank you again for being here for me.

Congratulations to you Lori!! What great feeling it is, eh?

And yes, R&R is one of the best advocates here for getting people headed in the right direction. Between R&R, rested gal, Ozij, and a few others, this place is becoming THE place for xPAP info!!

I have begun recommending it on the post-polio discussion lines that I monitor, so we may be getting some more newbies!
<LOL>

Thanks you guys!

Thanks for the kind words guys,

just glad this forum exists and I get more from it than I recieve. It is true misery loves company, but not to be miserable but to join together and beat this beast we fight.

Houston and 7 counties surrounding is having a brownout and we have had 100 degrees the last few days. It is hot and miserable and my cpap has not worked much, I really feel a difference. I must get the battery backup that I keep putting off doing

R&R,
Sorry to hear you're out of power and in such heat. Hope they restore your power soon. Yes, if you can, get that battery backup soon. If you can't find it by you, let me know. I'd be happy to get one for you in NY and send it to you. Keep me posted and good luck.

Hello

To me the cpap is a "Snorkel Machine" but I enjoy sleeping with it as my sleep pattern is alot better then sleep without em. As I am often trainwreak if I go without.

Been on CPAP for a while.....I had moderate apenoa

Thanks Sleepless in LI,

I am going to shop around. We finally had power come up around midnight so of course the house was an oven. My internet was out as well. Oh well I could have been in a hotel room.
