Seems if I set my machine from 12 - 14 the machine starts at 12 and gives occasion bursts to 13 throught the night. If I set it for a range of 13 - 15 then it starts at 13 with occasional bursts to 14. If I set it for a range of 12 -15 it just starts at 12 and never goes above 13. I have a respironics auto and I thought I should be able to find my ideal pressure but maybe all it does is work within a narrow range. I read that resmed claims to have a true autotitrating machine. Anybody have any advice?
Auto titration issues
Thanks RIP, I was just curious because of something I read on the RESMED website. I have pasted the info below. Probably a sales pitch but I was curious if the S8 AutoSet 2 would truly find my correct pressure and react quicker to events than my Respironics Auto. I guess I am looking for a solution to the fact that the therapy seems to have diminished for me. I sleep a few hours at a time and awaken tired. It is definatlely better than pre-therapy days but I am chasing the good feelings I got from the first few months of therapy. My numbers are always low and I keep thinking I should feel better with so few events. :
"Because no two autotitration devices operate the same, we encourage people who are interested to investigate devices made by other manufacturers. Here are some important questions for your investigation:
Does it actually titrate the user, or does it simply operate in a given pressure range?
What types of breathing events (flow limitation, snore, apnea) does it respond to?
Does it respond to the severity of events?
Does it monitor your breathing constantly or only during specific test periods?
Most importantly, is there any published clinical validation--preferably in a peer-reviewed medical journal--of the device's ability to provide efficacious treatment?
ResMed's AutoSet Spirit actually finds the pressure that the user needs. Other machines may require a physician to preprogram a pressure range in which the machine will operate. If a person needs more or less pressure than specified in the range, the machine will not be able to satisfy that requirement.
The AutoSet Spirit responds to snoring, apneas, and flow limitation. It also compensates for mask leak.
The AutoSet algorithm responds according to the severity of the event: the greater the event, the greater the response. Most devices respond in an incremental fashion until the event is resolved.
The AutoSet algorithm monitors your breathing on a breath-by-breath basis. Most devices "spot-check" your breathing.
The AutoSet algorithm has been clinically validated in peer-reviewed journals. Massie and Hart conducted a study that showed the AutoSet T provides efficacious treatment at lower pressures, increases patient compliance, and improves outcomes."

Before I purchased my M Series Auto (about 8 months ago), I used a ResMed Elite with my sleep study titrated pressure of 6 (did this for a year and a half), really had no noticeable results, didn't feel any better. Then I found this forum, began to learn about data, got my auto. The auto found my sweet spot of around 12. Now my AHI is consistently very low, and I feel so much better. So, the M did the job for me. I've not heard anyone question the auto titrating capability of the M Series. For me, it's the DREAM machine.
