Horrible night last night - Help me with this chart please.

Post by dieselgal » Mon Apr 21, 2008 2:31 pm

I must confess that I consider myself to be intelligent but when I look at these charts I sometimes go brain dead. Since last night was so bad for me I wanted to see if you guys see something I am missing.
HELP!

Doesn't look bad to me at all. What is it that bothered you last night? Your leaks did get worse at the end of the night, but nothing too terrible. I think if you can get the leaks a little better controled you'll see more improvement in how you feel. AHI 0.6 is great!

How did you _feel_?
(As opposed to just the numbers in the report.)

I can't tell from reading your post whether you felt that you slept really badly, or that (perhaps) you slept OK but are concerned about the numbers

The only numbers that look bad are the VS. On the nights when I sleep really good, my VS are high, other numbers are good. (Like your graph shows.)

What kind of mask?

Other than too wide a range I don't see anything wrong.

I was hoping this would give some indication. I was awake at least a dozen times!!! I get so sick of not sleeping. I just want to sleep at least 4 hours straight for a few days straight!
My range is set at 8-13 now. Should it be closer?

I would try bumping the min up to 10 and see if that helps with the snores. At 11 you didn't have any. Not sure if this isconcerned with your bad night though. Hang in there it's bound to get better <smile> jim

That's too much too quick. Change by one and wait for at least several nights, looking at the data each day before changing again. That's because one night's numbers can vary so much.

Are these numbers typical? Do you often have low AHI and FL, and have high VS?

Yes that is fairly common for me. I wondered why I tend to show snoring with good low numbers.

I hope it's good because yours is the same as mine last night. I had a AHI of 0.6 also. My snore index was a bit better than yours. Mine was 1.9. Smile when you get good numbers, it makes me feel better. I feel great (for an old fart) Went out and took the dog for a 2 mile walk.

dieselgal........I'm sorry if I don't remember your history. Have you ever tried straight CPAP? On APAP, I woke up all the time. As soon as I went to CPAP, I started sleeping through the night.

Yes Country I had CPAP for a year. I just went to APAP about 3 weeks ago but I have been having this problem again for about the last 4 months.

Dieselgal

Most folks would die for numbers like that, but depending on how much of that 8 hours was spent just lying there awake it would skew the numbers somewhat. Not sure if anyone has tried any experimenting awake but i am quite sure there would be no events, so if you subtracted the estimated time awake off the total hours slept, then the AHI would be higher. By looking at your snores would be my guess when you were actually asleep. Even so the numbers would still be low even after subtracting the awake time. I am guessing if you felt bad the next day it was from interupted sleep and instead of 8 hours it was probably closer to 6 hours slept. I wouldn't suspect the machine, could it be stress caused (or whatever) the reason for waking up so many times during the night.

How do you post your data like that - just straight into you post - without photobucket. I'd like to be able to do that. Sorry I'm not offering any help - just wanting to learn
Thanks

Help with chart

Post by Hawthorne » Tue Apr 22, 2008 9:36 am

Thanks for the "direct link image" info!
Your numbers look great except for the vibratory snore. I'm no expert, but I got a lot better numbers and felt better, when I raised my bottom pressure. I am now at 10.5 to 13 about 2 weeks ago. I had moved the bottom number up from 9 at forum members' suggestions and it has really made a huge difference for me. I was titrated at 10 almost 6 years ago. In the fall (last year) I began to feel worse. Long wait to see sleep specialist so I had a 5 night auto test. Showed 90% to be 11 so had the machine (old no data Remstar) adjusted.
SInce then (still waiting for medical people), got a M Series Auto with A-Flex and software, etc. in February. I have adjusted the numbers a few times but raising my lower pressure this much has made the most difference for me. My 90% is now 12 but I feel lots better and my numbers are great. When I finally get another sleep test (after almost 6 years and a long wait) I am anxious to know what that shows. I'll bet I did just as well with advice from here! I'm having the sleep study since I want to know if anything else might be going on as far as my sleep is concerned.
I'm not very expert at this but am sure learning a lot! My experience, over the past 2 week showed that a raise in the lower number made a dramatic difference for me. It looks like your numbers were much better (even the vibratory snore - halved) when you raised it in your second chart in the last post. Like me, you are on the right track thanks to these folks. From your thread this morning, I learned a few more things!
Thanks all!
